Noters --> one of the first things you will notice that is different
about this conference is that the node we are using is in Californ I A.
If you notice the top right of the screen, on the line where the note
title is found, you will see the actual time your note is posted.
People outside of the PST Time Zone will notice that their notes will
be posted at node WLDWST's local time, not at your local time.

| I'm not an expert either, but I believe when you add a new entry, the
only not that is posted is Note #1, usually the introduction. Once you
"open" the note the balance of the noted which have been added link in.
If you had used the "next unseen" key after reading the intro, you
would have been able to continue reading the balance of the notes. Now
you will have to re-open the entry to continue reading.

|
Once you have done as Thel says (i.e., the set seen command) do the
following:
When you next get into notes you will be put at the earliest dated
note since you were last in there. Use the keypad all the way to
the right of your keyboard (i.e., the one with the numbers and PF1,
PF2, etc.) The keys that I use are defined as follows:
1 ==> go back one reply
3 ==> go forward one reply
2 ==> go forward one note
5 ==> go back one note
, (comma) ==> go to next unseen
- (dash, under PF4) ==> go to last read note/reply
0 ==> scroll to next screen
An example session would go as follows:
Enter notes which puts you at technical note 3.5
Read screen
Hit keypad 3, this will put you to 3.6
Read screen.
If this is the last reply in this note then
hit keypad , (comma). This will put
you at the next note unseen, say 20.4
Say at this point you want to go back to 3.6 cause
you want to write some info down contained
in that reply. Hit keypad - (dash), this will
put you back to note 3.6. When you are done there
you can again hit keypad - (dash) and you'll go
back to note 20.4.
The next note and back note keypads (2 and 5) will put
you at the first reply of the next/previous note. For
example is you were at 3.5 and hit keypad 2 you would
then be at 4.0, or if you hit keypad 5 you would then
be at 2.0.
I hope all this makes sense. Play around with it some and see how it
works. You can always do another SET/SEEN/BEFORE=30-JAN-1991 to reset
the last seen marker. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I was
taught how to use these keys 5 1/2 years ago and boy does it make life
easier. By using the next unseen keypad (,) when you exit notes and
then get back in you will automatically be at the first note/reply
entered since you were last in the conference.

3.15 | Using the NOTES Bookmark | FORTSC::CHERETON | Either beg me or slap my face! | Wed Jan 30 1991 14:57 | 50 |
|
Using the BOOKMARK -->
At the last note you read for a topic, you can mark it by typing -->
NOTES> MARK AMC (or whatever you want to call the topic)
Go to another topic and when you are done reading, type -->
NOTES> MARK GH (or whatever you want to call the topic)
Exit NOTES.
The next time you enter NOTES, you don't even have to type the
OPEN ABC_SOAPS command, all you have to type is -->
NOTES> READ/MARK AMC (keep the mark names short, it's easier!)
This will OPEN the file for you and take you to your last read note
in AMC (or whatever name you used to mark the file).
If you want to enter the conference by typing OPEN ABC_SOAPS, you
can navigate around the files you always read, by typing -->
NOTES> READ/MARK AMC (whatever nickname you used!)
This will take you directly to the last read note that you marked!
While in the conference ABC_SOAPS, you can type SHOW MARK at any
time. This will produce a list of all the marks you have made in
that particular conference. This is helpful if you forgot what
nickname you used for a mark!
If you exit the conference and forget to make a mark at the last
read note, the next time you enter the file, type the command -->
notes> READ/MARK AMC
will take you to the last place you marked, making you have to
catch up to where you want to be, by jumping ahead a few notes at
a time, manually! Once you get into the habit of marking your notes,
you will start to do it automatically.
If you make a typo --> you can delete a mark like this -->
NOTES> DELETE MARK AMC (or whatever the typo was)
BTW, Notes is not case sensitive! I hope this info is helpful!

| Hi DC,
I'll give it a try to answer you question.
If you are using regular notes (not DECWindow Notes), and you type REPLY at
the NOTES> prompt after the note you wish to reply. It should, by default (the
way I have my account set up, I come up with a split screen using the TPU
editor), come up with a split screen window with the note you are replying
to in the top half. If you want to scroll the reply note or go the reply
window to cut/paste or whatever, press to DO key. A prompt should come up at
the bottom of the screen saying something like "Command:". At this command
prompt, type OTHER. That should toggle back and forth between the split
screens.
I hope this answered the question you were asking. I'm a bit rusty without
the use of DECwindows.

Note 1.5 Welcome! 5 of 8
PSW::WINALSKI "Careful with that VAX, Eugene" 136 lines 4-SEP-1990 17:40
-< What to do if you have trouble accessing a NOTES conference >-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TROUBLESHOOTING NOTES CONFERENCE ACCESS PROBLEMS
This conference is not intended as a forum on how to use VAX NOTES. However,
you may use it AS A LAST RESORT to report problems accessing conferences that
are advertised here.
Before you enter a note or reply in this conference about a problem, please
make sure that you have tried all of the following steps to deal with
the problem yourself:
1) Get the full text of the error message. The error message should be two
lines of the form:
error opening conference xxx
specific reason why the conference couldn't be opened
Older versions of NOTES just gave you the first line of the message, which
isn't very useful in dealing with the problem. If you only get the first
line, you can say SHOW ERROR to get the full text of the message.
2) If the error is "insufficient system resources at remote node," it means
that the remote system is overloaded right now and cannot service your
request. If you wait and try again later, eventually you will get in.
If this condition persists for several days, you may wish to complain
**VIA MAIL** (NOT a note in this conference) to the conference moderator
or to the system manager (user SYSTEM) on that machine.
3) Make sure that the entry in your notebook is correct. Use the NOTES command
SHOW ENTRY to examine the notebook entry. Then, make sure that the
node::filespec matches the one given in the latest announcement for that
conference in EASYNET_CONFERENCES (see note 1.3 in EASYNET_CONFERENCES
for info on how to locate the conference advertisement).
If they do not match, change your notebook entry with the NOTES command
MODIFY ENTRY/FILE=node::filespec. Then try opening the conference again.
4) If the error is "remote node is unknown" it means that your local system
doesn't know the node name. Either the node doesn't exist and your notebook
entry for the conference is wrong, or the node does exist and your local
system's network database is out of date.
See step (3) to check your notebook entry.
If the notebook entry is OK, check that the node exists. You do this by
seeing if node ANCHOR, which holds the master copy of the remote node
database, knows about the node name. From DCL, type:
$ MCR NCP TELL ANCHOR SHOW NODE xxx
where "xxx" is the node in question. If this command returns the
message "Unrecognized component, Node" it means that the node really
doesn't exist and the entry in EASYNET_CONFERENCES is wrong. At this
point, you should enter a REPLY to the conference announcement in
EASYNET_CONFERENCES pointing out the error, and also you should send mail
to the moderator of the conference.
If ANCHOR does know about the node, it means that your local system's
network database is in error. You should have your system manager correct
the problem.
5) If the error is "remote node is unreachable," it means either that the
machine isn't on the network just now, or that your local system's network
database has the wrong node address for the remote node. To check your
local system's network database, you use NCP to ask your local system
for the node address and you compare that against the same information from
node ANCHOR:
$ MCR NCP
NCP> SHOW NODE xxx
NCP> TELL ANCHOR SHOW NODE xxx
NCP> ^Z
$
You will get answers of the form 2.476 (TLE). The number shown is the
node number. It should be the same both on your local system and on
ANCHOR. If it is different, have your system manager correct the
problem.
If your local node database has the correct node number, then it means
that either the remote node is off the network at the moment, or that
transient network problems prevent a connection between your node and
the remote node. Wait a while and try again. If the condition persists
for several days, get in touch with the conference moderator or the
system manager of the remote node to find out why it is off the network.
6) If the error is "network object is unknown at remote node," it means either
that NOTES isn't installed on the remote system, or that the remote
system has temporarily shut off NOTES access to prevent overload
conditions.
First, you should follow steps (3), (4), and (5) to make sure that your
notebook entry is correct and that your system has the correct node address.
If all that stuff is OK, try waiting a while and trying again. If the
condition persists over a period of days, contact the conference moderator
and the system manager (user SYSTEM) of the remote node via MAIL.
7) If the error is "network partner exited" it means either that the remote
system is overloaded or that there is some problem with NOTES on the
remote system. Wait a while and try again later. If the problem persists,
contact the moderator of the conference and the system manager of the
remote node via MAIL.
8) If the error is "login information invalid at remote node," it means that
the NOTES server is improperly installed there. First, follow steps
(3), (4), and (5) to make sure that your notebook entry is correct and
that your system has the correct node address.
If all that stuff is OK, contact the conference moderator and the system
manager (user SYSTEM) of the remote node via MAIL.
9) If the error is "file not found," "directory not found," "error in
device name or inappropriate device type for operation," or "device not
ready, not mounted, or unavailable," it means either that the NOTES$LIBRARY
logical name is not set up properly on the remote node, or the notes
conference file doesn't exist, or the disk containing NOTES$LIBRARY isn't
mounted. First, follow steps (3), (4), and (5) to make sure that your
notebook entry is correct and that your system has the correct node
address.
If all that stuff is OK, contact the conference moderator and the system
manager (user SYSTEM) of the remote node via MAIL.
If all else fails, as a last recourse you may post a note in this
conference reporting the problem. This note should be entered as a REPLY
to the note that announces the conference. Before putting in your
reply, make sure you have read all of the previous replies. You may find
that the conference has moved, or is temporarily down, or something of
that sort. If you do enter a reply, be sure to include the exact message
that you're getting from NOTES. Simply saying "I can't seem to get to
conference X" isn't enough information for anybody to help you.

3.36 | Compress your NOTES$NOTEBOOK.NOTE;1 file | FORTSC::CHERETON | Either beg me or slap my face! | Fri Feb 15 1991 14:33 | 53 |
|
This note will tell you how to COMPRESS your NOTES$NOTEBOOK.NOTE;1
file. If you have never done this and you use NOTES often, there
is a very good chance that you will benefit from this procedure.
It will compress, with NO HARM --> your notebook! As a result, you
will regain disk space. For those of you working with disk quotas,
you will be very happy to get some space back! (^%
The next note (3.37) will contain the actual command procedure.
Here's what to do -->
1. Go to the next note and type EXTRACT/NOHEADER COMPRESS.COM
2. Exit NOTES and type this at your DCL PROMPT --> $@COMPRESS
3. If you have never done this before and you use NOTES often,
this procedure can take 3-7 minutes. WAIT FOR IT TO FINISH!
4. When the procedure finishes, it will show you that it has made
two versions of the NOTES$NOTEBOOK.NOTE file. Like this -->
NOTES$NOTEBOOK.NOTE;2
*2,344 (this is the actual block size
of the new compressed file)
NOTES$NOTEBOOK.NOTE;1
*19,665 (this is the actual block size
of the old uncompressed file)
You can see that Version 2 is much smaller than Version 1.
*Note: I made up these numbers to indicate how a sample output
would work. Everyone who uses this procedure will get
actual block size numbers relevant to their specific
accounts.
5. Do the following to remove the old Version of notes and get
that disk space back for other uses -->
$DELETE/LOG NOTES$NOTEBOOK.NOTES;1 (be sure to delete the
older version. Version
1 is older than version 2)
Additional thanks goes to Lisa Dugal! She is the one who had a better
command procedure than I did! I tried this on three different systems
and got back thousands of blocks with NO negative impact on my
NOTES$NOTEBOOK.NOTE file! Try it!
If you have a question or problem --> post a note right here!

| Hi everyone. I'd like to know if there is a way to do a directory
within a note. For example, if I'm in AMC and I only have time to read

The way I worded that question almost confused me so if I'm not clear

POBOX::BRADDIX ==> I think what you want to do is something
like the following:
If you wanted to get a directory for all the replies in the
AMC note, you would do the command:
Notes> DIR 14.*
Also, if you wanted to narrow the directory listing down to just
notes entered after a certain date, you can do that too.
Notes> DIR/SINCE=date 14.*
An example of a directory listing for all GH replies posted
this week, I would look like:
Notes> DIR/SINCE=25-FEB-1991 16.*

Some of you may want to compress your VAXMAIL messages and get back

you do this! Here's how -->
MAIL> COMPRESS
(wait a few minutes until the mail prompt comes back)
Then exit mail and get to your DCL prompt ($).
Type $DELETE/LOG MAIL.OLD
If you have your VAXMAIL going to a directory called MAIL.DIR then
set default to MAIL.DIR like this:
$SET DEF [.MAIL]
Then you can type the $DELETE/LOG MAIL.OLD
If you have a problem with this, post a note right here!

3.78 | This is how... | TOOK::DUGAL | Lisa | Fri Mar 22 1991 12:37 | 31 |
| Hi Jackie,
There are a couple of ways of doing what you want to do. I usually use the
following method because it's the quickest for me and it is the quickest if
the note you want to include pieces of is long!
When you REPLY to a note, Notes usually puts you into the TPU editor.
1/2 your screen is the note you are replying to (usually the top half), and
the other half (bottom) is the note you are typing. Assuming you are using
the standard DEC keyboard, you want to do something like the following (and I
hope this isn't too confusing to follow):
Notes> REPLY
(now in editor)
1. Press DO key, type OTHER (this will get you to the other half of the screen)
2. Use arrow keys to position cursor just before text you want to include
3. Press the SELECT key
4. Use arrow keys to highlight any text you want to include in your note
5. Press REMOVE key
6. Press DO key, type OTHER
7. Press the INSERT HERE key
I hope this helped. There are other methods for doing this or if you want to
include a whole note but some of those have already been posted here (go back
and read previous notes in this topic).

Then type: REPLY/LAST and you'll get the whole note in your buffer
and you can edit out what you don't want to include.

What kind of printer is aci4$dan (ie, is it an LN03 scriptwriter, LPS40, etc?)
If you don't know, you can ask around your group, somebody might know. We'll
need this info to help you get that file to print.
Also, if you are able to get to the $ prompt (I know many people can't due to
captured accounts), you can do a $ SHOW QUEUE. It give you a list of all the
queues available to your system. You may find that you have a queue that is
already set up for Postscript (.PS files) printing. Look for something like
pos4$dan or post4$dan or something with "post" in it and try that.

| Hi Jackie,
First of all find out what the queue is for you LNO3 ScriptPrinter is.
and try printing to that. Normally, the scriptprinters are set up to
handle postscript just by typing $ print/queue=<scriptprinter queue> (atleast
in the last 3 building I worked in they had them setup that way).
If that still doesn't work, try using the command:
$ print/queue=<scriptprinter queue>/param=(data=postscript)
where <scriptprinter queue> is the queue name for your scriptprinter.
I hope this makes sense. Let me know how you make out.

It is very important to have .ps extension when printing

|
3.90 | They were moved | MISERY::CORDES_JA | Set Apartment/Cat_Max=3 | Thu Jun 06 1991 17:25 | 18 |
| Notes 35 and 36 were moved to topics that were more suited to their
content.
When we move a note and its replies to a different location, the
system deletes the old location. When that happens in the middle
of the directory it can cause skips in the numeric sequences of
the notes. When it happens at the end, the next time a topic is
created, the number should be used again.
For example: I moved your note (3.89) from it's original location
as topic 41.0 because I felt it was a technical question and belonged
in this topic. Next time a new topic is created it should become the
new topic 41.0.
Did I explain that okay? Are you confused yet?

I just moved note 41 and it's replies to the Personal Dating Service

the record did not lock. That is why note 41 appears to be there, but
you can't read it. It is some kind of a glitch.

type reply/last at the note prompt. Your just deleted note will

BTW: I've also found this works about 60% of the time is the netwrk
path is last while you are typing a reply. Re-open the note select

| Yes... go to the note and type print/que=printer_name number.*
for instance, if I wanted this note and all it's replies I would type
at the NOTES> print/que=ln03 3.*
and it would print it all under one heading at your printer.

remove all the headers before printing. Do an "extract/noheader" when
you extract the topic to a file.

We receive a Synopsis of what the Topic is and are told if we want the

3.120 | The 12 hour pink soap tape | TOOK::DUGAL | Lisa | Wed Aug 07 1991 07:26 | 15 |
| I know a silent noter who picked up the tape I think you guys are talking
about in AMC.
She hasn't had much luck with the tape. The tape itself is appears to be
thinner than many other brands (probably so they can fit more tape onto the
spool. Her VCR (an older model) just loves to eat the tape. Also I would
assume that the thinner tape would wear out alot faster too (that's just my
personal opinion).
If you are really looking for higher quality tape, I've always has good luck
using the Maxell HGX. It is a little on the expensive side, but I've been
using the same tape for 3+ years now and I haven't had any problems.
Just my opinion. If others have more info, I'm sure we'd all love to hear it!

Mods/Comods:
I have a question. Is it possible for you to go thru the technical
file here and throw out the ones that are not questions/answers and
rename the one's that don't have a name? I was just trying to find a
note that I knew was in this technical note and couldn't find
it....then I found it but when I did a dir 3.* it didn't show it
because the name wasn't right. How frustrating!
Also, maybe we could start now and make sure the name for each is
correct.
Suggestion, only!

| The moderators have discussed the possibility of going back through
this topic to rename all the notes and delete non-related notes and
have come to the conclusion that none of us really has enough time
to devote to that project.
What we would like to suggest for future notes in this topic is that
everyone make an effort to give a brief idea of your question or answer
in the title of the note.
Example: -<?: How do I ... >- ? = Question
-<A: How do I ... >- A = Answer
Hopefully, the practice of adding descriptive titles will make things
easier to find in this topic in the future.

Most VCR's I've seen you plug your cable into the VCR and another cable

thing to remember tho is if you have a long conference name your
directory may be showing an abbreviated form and it won't delete, you
must enter the whole name: example if you have DIGITAL_MYTHS_DEBUNKED
you directory will show it as DIGITAL_MYTHS_DEBUNK, if you type in
delete entry digital_myths_debunk, it will tell you its not found. You
have to type in DIGITAL_MYTHS_DEBUNKED.
I hope this made things clears and not hazier.

Do this---> at the NOTES> prompt, type DELETE ENTRY IOALOT::SOAPS and

you could do dir/output=amc.txt
This would put a copy of the whole directory into a vms file called
amc.txt.
If you want to print say note number 14 (you would need alot of time
and paper) you would type print 14.* (at this point I have to designate
a printer) .
let me know if this isn't what you had in mind.

Hi,
Anybody know how to program the Cable TV box? Currently, I have
to program the VCR, then leave the Cable TV box on all day set
to channel 5. The TV can be off. Unfortunately, I keep forgetting
to turn the Cable TV box on so I rarely see the soaps! I know that
my box is programmable, however, the cable company neglected to
give me directions to do it. Anybody have a box that could tell
me the steps to take?
Thanks,

| Karen,
When I hook my old vcr up thru the cable box (new vcr gets all channels
so it doen't require a cable box) I just make sure when I turn off the
cable box it's on channel 5 and that's the channel that gets recorded.
Works great as long as there is not a power failure, or you have a
husband like mine that unplugs the cable box to plug in the vacuum
cleaner. He thinks he does me a big favor by plugging the box back in
before the recorder comes on, but what he doesn't realize is that the
box resets itself for channel 2. So I come home to 2hrs of Sesame
Street and Mr. Rogers.

DC showed everyone how to compress their notebooks...well I just
thought I would share something with you.
I compress mine at least once a week because it grows so fast,
but anyways, twice when I purged the versions of my notebook,
and went into notes, it blew away my notebook and created a
new notebook each time I entered notes...
I had to have my notebook restored twice...operations is beginning
not to like me too much!
Just thought I would warn everyone to be careful when you do this.

| It is always a good idea when compressing your notebook to go into
Notes and make sure all your stuff is still there before purging the
old version. Also, if you enter your conference and enter the
set seen command to set all your unseen notes as seen you will
not grow your Notebook much. It is the unseen notes that start
to eat up your disk space. To do this, open the conference and
enter the set seen command.
Notes> open abc_soaps
> set seen
or you can enter a date on the set seen command. No date is the
default and the dafault is today. You can enter any date and then
the notes entered before that date will be set seen. This is for
when you like to use the read next unseen command.

3.193 | Ssving your buffer when a remote system crashes | OYVEY::CHERETON | Either beg me or slap my face! | Mon Jan 27 1992 14:05 | 30 |
|
Sometimes you have a big note to post and the system crashes or
won't let you make a network link. This procedure could save you
from having to retype your note all over again!
If you have a note typed into your buffer and the system where you
want to post it has crashed --> first, try to reconnect, but don't
leave notes.
If you can reconnect, type at the NOTES prompt --> REPLY/LAST.
This should bring up your buffer with your note already in it.
If you can't reconnect to the system that crashed --> try this.
Don't leave notes, but open another conference instead. Do a
REPLY/LAST to get your buffer emptied. Then do an
EXTRACT FILENAME.TXT. Now that you have your note dumped into
another conference, and you have extracted it to VMS, you can
wait for your system to come back up --> then you can post your
file with this command --> NOTES> REPLY FILENAME.TXT.
NOTE--> ***** BE SURE TO [[[DELETE]]] THE NOTE YOU DUMPED INTO
ANOTHER CONFERENCE AFTER YOU HAVE EXTRACTED IT. *******************
There has to be an easier way to save a buffer in notes when you
can't post it due to system failure. Maybe someone can tell us how
to save a few steps. For now, the above method will save your
buffer in the event of a system failure/network link problem.

| Another way of adding a LONG note without having to worry about losing it,
is to do the following:
1. Edit SOAP.TXT (with your editor of choice)
write text of your note
2. Exit the editor
3. $ NOTES
4. Notes> OPEN ABC_SOAPS
5. Go to the note you wish to add the reply to.
For example: if you want to add it AMC, go to note 14.
4. Notes> REPLY SOAP.TXT
The file soap.txt will be included into the reply buffer.
You can now make any last minute changes here
5. CTRL/Z
6. Add title
7. Y to add reply
And your done! Then if you want you can go back and delete SOAP.TXT from your
directory (at the $ prompt).
For those of you using All-in-1, I'm not sure how this will work. I don't
know all-in-1. Sorry.

Steph --> get out of notes (after you read this) and try doing this!
$ show logical sys$print
If you get two separate printers listed instead of one --> then there
are two printers identified as sys$print. If there really are two, then
we'll have to edit your login.com file to set [YOUR] sys$print to be
the one to correctly respond to the PRINT command. Otherwise, whenever
you use just the word PRINT as your command, the system will print
your job on what the system thinks is it's sys$print queue!
Remember, if this is done right, the word PRINT is really just a logical
name (shortcut) for the whole print command. That's why you have to
execute your login.com file like this, after the edits are made -->
$ @login, to make the edits current!
Until the login.com is fixed, you can direct any job to the printer you
really want it to go to, by issuing this command outside of notes -->
$print/queue=STARR$LN3 YOUR_FILE_NAME.TXT;14
The same command should work in NOTES, but you won't get it to print
until you either exit NOTES or add the /NOWAIT qualifier -->
NOTES>$print/queue=STARR$LN3 YOUR_FILE_NAME.TXT;3/nowait
If this is too confusing, I can try to talk you through it tomorrow!

it came up with TWO printers ->
"SYS$PRINT" = "STARR$LN3" (LNM$JOB_809B2970)
"SYS$PRINT" = "MLO" (LNM$SYSTEM_TABLE)
It's ok tho --> It's working fine the way it is, and I type quickly so

Don't go all the way out of notes (if you do, then you will lose
your buffer) --> go into any other conference and type REPLY/LAST.
Your note will be posted in another conference that way. Then you
have to type EXTRACT TRACEY.TXT (your note), to VMS. After you have
extracted your note --> you must immediately delete the note you
posted in the other conference like this --> DELETE 66.8766 (or
whatever number it is).
Exit NOTES and do a DIR at the $. You will see the note you just
extracted. Later on, try getting back to the original notes file,
once you are where you want to post the note, type this --> REPLY

| Tracey,
Don't know if you are interested in doing this but I know it will
work if you can get to DCL and use an Editor.
The steps you would go through are
1. $ Edit may28.txt or $ Edit/tpu may28.txt
2. $ notes
3. (In notes) open ABC_SOAPS
4. go to your particular section xx.xxxx
5. Reply/title = "Update for Thursday"
6. (when inside the buffer, press "DO" (above the mini-keypad)
7. At the command prompt, enter
Include may28.txt (and press return)
8. Congrats!!!!! your update is in!!!
To go into an editor (more on number 1),
At the $, create a file using the EDT or EVE editor, for example.
$ edit may28.txt for EDT
or
$ edit/tpu may28.txt for EVE
Then type in your file. If you system went down at this point you
have a journal file named
may28.jou for the edt editor
may28.tjl or may28_txt.tpu$journal for the eve editor
so.....you wouldn't have lost anything.
Let me know if you don't know about the editors or journal files and
I will help you with this.
Apologies if you already knew this method. I get interrupted so
many times, that I have to create my note at DCL and then
include it in Notes.
I am FOR SURE that our FUSCHIA!!!!!! loving dc/Valmont's method is
like THERE, but it never hurts to have a "Lucky Star" Material Girl
method either.

Does anyone remember how K2 got her little 2 behind her name? She sent
me directions but I can't find them. I have to use the little 2's on
something I am typing.
I sure hope someone can help!

hello everyone...this probably doesn't belong here, but i'm hoping
someone will help me anyway. i'm new to notes, and i have a few
questions...
how can i access/read the archived IOALOT::SOAPS file?
how can i get updates on non-ABC soaps?
what happened to topics 26-29 of this conference?
thanks,
that lynn girl.

| I don't believe there is any way to access IOALOT::SOAPS. The
powers that be shut that file down.
Pointers to other soap updates can be found in note 5.0.
Notes 26 through 29 were for programs that were cancelled or topics
that were no longer being used. We were having a disk space issue
and in the interest of saving disk space those notes were deleted.

| All the new updaters are doing a wonderful job. I just want to take
this oppotunity to remind everyone that when you are doing a "same
day" update you need to put in a spoiler. To do that just type
CONTROL L. That should work in most cases.

I'm trying to pull the updates from the WEB. I can see and read
them but for some reason, I can't download them to my PC.
Can any of you Netscape guru's out there help me figure out
what could be causing this to happen?
Thanks
Monica
I'll see if I can use MOSAIC and access them that way.
