Windom Hill now has a Jazz label and I'm trying to remember a name of a group that records under that label. They are I believe a husband and wife team that play guitar and I believe sing. Does anybody have any idea the name of this group. i read a great review of there latest album but I cann't remember the name of the dual. Bart Lasky

The duo is Tuck & Patti, and their release is entitled "Tears of Joy". I have had the CD for quite some time, and it is still one of my most frequently played discs. The recording was made without any studio tricks, i.e. each song was done as a complete take without edits, overdubs, or punching-in. A remarkable feat, considering the speed and intricasy of some of the playing and singing. Beyond that, the DDD sound is great, with a very natural and unaffected tone in the expertly captured vocals. Patti sounds *very* similar to Anita Baker, and I enjoy both singers, but IMHO, Baker has greater range and power. I recommend "Tears of Joy". Shawn

Thanks Shawn I'll give it a listen!! Bart Lasky PS: As far as Anita Baker goes, I really enjoyed her first album and her second is Ok but too much like the first. I would have loved to have her sing more scat and/or jazz. Maybe next time! If you can catch her live see her. I seen her at the commons last year and she sounded and looked great.

Shawn, I pick up the CD this weekend for 11.99 at the sale at Strawberries, and just wanted to let you know that the CD is just like you said. It's the kind of CD that if you just close your eyes you would think your in a small jazz club but without the clinking of glasses. Good stuff thanks, Bart Lasky |
