1467.0. "Small,rack-mount CD player?" by FGVAXX::LAING (Soft-Core-Cuddler*Jim Laing*261-2194) Sun Jan 08 1989 21:38

I'm searching for something that I think is unusual, for a specific purpose.
Can anyone help me find either a cassette deck or CD player that

	-can be rack-mounted (standard 19" rack)
	-has decent quality (need not be "the best" though)
	-is SMALL (i.e. 1 rack space ideal, 1-3/4" high

Alternately, is there a "combined" CD player/cassette deck that is

	-at least OK quality
	-fits in 1 or 2 standard 19" rack spaces
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since they can make portable CD players small, and hi-quality "walkman-
style" units that are quite small (the $300-$400 Sony units whose model
# I forget), I assume that it's at least POSSIBLE to make such a unit
as I describe above.

My needs are to add this/these to an existing rack of musical gear.
Any hints on where I could locate somthing like this?

	Thanks,

   This is really small!! I would suggest that you go the Sony D15/Walkman
    route. This combination will probably get you the best quality for
    what you want to do regardless of size. Everything I've seen so
    far for a disc/cassette combo. is junk! I think that the Sony D15
    is one of the best portable cd players on the market today. The
    Sony Walkman will give you one of the best portable tuners also.
    It will still cost you about $700. for the pair but the quality
    of the two units speak for themselves.

1467.2Don't go portable for DJing!SHARE::COYNERMon Jan 09 1989 14:498
        I wouldn't go portable if you are considering DJing. The vibration
    on the portable players is pretty bad. I have used the D15 in my
    car with decent results, but when I hit a big bump it skips. I
    have also talked to some other DJs and noone really suggests using
    a portable player. Most dance halls shake pretty good if it's a
    decent sized crowd.  FYI.

    There are a few rack-mountable cassette machines, but they are 2
    or 3 rack spaces high. Tascam makes a couple, they are pricey as
    they are intended for use in studios.
