Stargazing for 1989
-------------------
Beatles. (This is more hopeful than factual). The declining sales
of the "Past Masters Vol 1 & 2" might make EMI (Capitol)
re-issue as a double set at a reduced price.
Rod Stewart. Many artists are using a compilation album to promote
their latest single, and in some cases re-establish
themselves.
I think Mr. Stewart needs something to help lift
his flagging career. A new compilation might be
the record company's answer. A recent CD "Rod
Stewart - the early years" is a compilation of early
hits e.g. "Maggie May" and early album tracks.
Queen. The current G.H.s does not contain the hits of the past 3/4
years. EMI (Capitol) have recently released CD singles of
things like " Radio Ga Ga". I think there are 4 in the set.
This leads me to believe that a new G.H.s CD will be coming.
What do you think might happen in 1989 ?

I don't know if this will happen in 1989 or not, but I suspect that
when sales of all the Beatles discs drop below a certain threshold,
Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs will release their digitally re-engineered
versions at premium prices, causing all us loyal fans to buy these
discs again.

I have been looking for Queen's Greatest Hits on CD - have you seen
this?? I checked in the Noteworthy catalog, and do not see it.

re:.2
It may well be out of print now. I had a copy some years back, but
sold it off when I got import copies of the original albums.
re:.0
Actually, there are 12 Queen CD3's (well, at least, as imports).
Basically, it looks like one per album.

RE: .0
There has been a development relating to the Beatles "Past Masters".
According to the Dec-88 Schwann CD catalog, it's now available as
a double-LP and as a double-length cassette. Because it's reported
in the CD-only catalog, I assumed there was now a double-CD version
too, but on reading the fine print that doesn't seem to be the case.

There is no way that they could fit Past Masters one and two on
one compact disc. It would run close to 90 minutes. They would have
to cut out some songs or make a 2 CD set at a reduced price...
