1441.0. "CD Rolodex Storage" by LDP::BYARS () Wed Dec 21 1988 07:48

I'm looking for a type of CD storage unit that hasn't (as far as
I know) been mentioned elsewhere in the notes file. I guess it could
best be described as a Rolodex type display. I saw it advertised in
the Sharper Image Catalog, but of course I don't want to pay Sharper
Image prices. They didn't print the manufacturer's name, either.

The unit lies flat on a shelf, and has an aluminum base with
grooves 2-3 CD's wide that CD cases rest in. Their are about 9 or
    10 grooves in a unit, giving you a potential 30-40 disk/unit storage.
The advantage is that you can flip through CD's and see their covers,
rather than just the edges, kind of like you would with LP's. In
fact, I first saw the unit in a used CD store in Princeton, NJ,
and it was used this way.

Any info on manufacturer or retailer in Eastern Mass. would be appreciated.

i have seen something extremely similar at Rockit Records in Nashua.
it's only $2.99, hold about 15-20 discs thats 1 disc per groove.

They sell them at "Untouchable Sound" in Old Shrewsbury Village.

They are very expensive, so don't expect to pay much less, if any,
    than Sharper Image.

1441.3made by Lift (Systems (?))GLASS::HULLHallalujah!! The Resurrection (Plan A) has come!Wed Dec 21 1988 11:3913
Those storage units are made by Lift company - and are the same as used
in the newer CD-only shops. Every issue of (new name) CD Review
magazine has a full-page ad for Lift systems for dealers. The unit
offered in the Sharper Image catalog holds 30, I believe, and costs
    $59.

I'd go wood cabinet before using this product, just on the
    cost/capacity ratio alone.

There are some very expensive(-looking) Lift ones designed for use in
    retail stores.

There are also cheap plastic ones that are sold in many stores, and
    packages free with certain disks.

Do these units allow you to insert new CDs without having to shift the
ones already stored? If not, I recommend a shelf and a pair of bookends.

I've seen these in all Lechmere stores. If I remember correctly
there is a choice between two or three different manufacturers.
What's left after Christmas I don't know, but if there are any the
prices are sure to drop. The prices seemed to range from five to
    thirty dollars.

The one from Lift is, I think, $45 at Untouchable Sound, and $39
at Service Merchandise. You can remove individual discs, but it will
not hold double-discs. I think it would not be as handy if you
    had more than 60 discs.
