1435.1It's definitely available!!HPSTEK::WOODMon Dec 19 1988 08:557
Yes, I've seen it just about everywhere. Even better, I think it's
in Warner Bros. budget line, so you can get it for around $11-12
at most places. I don't have it myself but I have other Warner
Bros. CD's and for the most part, they sound pretty good.

The Oct,Nov,Dec Noteworthy catalog shows a fixed price of $9.31 for
    that album.
"since we pass along all manufacurers' discounts, your cost may be
lower than the fixed price shown"

1435.3James Taylor on CDDSSDEV::HANNAJohn HannaMon Dec 19 1988 15:4727

I think all of James Taylor's albums are available on CD now with
the exception of "James Taylor", "One Man Dog", and
"J.T. and the Flying Machine" which aren't even available on record
anymore. You can sometimes find these records at used record stores.

"James Taylor" contains the original versions of
"Something In The Way She Moves" and "Carolina In My Mind" and
has the classic "Knockin' 'Round The Zoo".

"One Man Dog" is a very good album with about 18 short songs including
"Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight".

"J.T. and the Flying Machine" is James Taylor's first album.
It's mostly just a jam session, but has some interesting versions
of his songs. I think every song on this album is also on the
       longer album "James Taylor."

The only CD to have an extra song is "That's Why I'm Here" which
    contains the song "My Romance".

In addition to the normal James Taylor albums, CBS(?) has put out another
James Taylor greatest hits CD (called Classics?) which seems to
be quite expensive and probably isn't worth buying.

I believe that the extra cut on this album (one of my favorites, I have
    them all) is "Mona".

The album is expensive in the US because it is a British import. One
of the things that makes it unique is that it's a greatest hits album
including songs from both Warner Bros. and Columbia albums. I assume
(but don't know for sure) that's because both labels are handled by the
    same distributor in the UK.

"Classics" got a good review in Digital Audio (or maybe it was Guitar
    Player, I forget).

P.S. There is also a James Taylor concert on laserdisc. Both sound
          and picture are excellent.

I just got a copy through the CBS CD club and the quality of the
    recording is excellent.

In all actuality, John was right, the extra track is indeed "My
    Romance". ;-)

1435.7JT's Greatest Hits albumsDSSDEV::HANNAJohn HannaWed Dec 21 1988 09:5625
I agree that James Taylor's "Greatest Hits" is well-mastered.
JT did new versions of Something In The Way She Moves, Carolina
In My Mind, and Steamroller (LIVE) for this album. I don't know
if it's because he thought they weren't recorded well enough
originally or he just wanted to make new versions (which are
    significantly different).

I haven't heard "Classics" but the reason I suggested it probably
wasn't worth buying is that several of the songs on it are on Greatest
Hits and the others are on later albums which are worth buying.
I wouldn't pay $24 for a CD which is a collection of songs all of
which I already have on CD. Also, as far as I now, there aren't
new versions of songs on that CD either. I like the contents of
Greatest Hits and the fact that there are three re-recorded songs.
I wish Warner Brothers would come up with a "Greatest Hits Volume 2"
that contains only songs since Greatest Hits and maybe some new
    versions or bonus tracks.

BTW: Recently, I saw there is a new James Taylor songbook
("James Taylor Complete") with two volumes that contains all of
JT's songs through That's Why I'm Here and that even includes
      "Mescalito"!

James Taylor is the only performer I am aware of who is enjoyed equally
by me AND by my 15, & 18 year old daughters.

If any of you James Taylor fans haven't heard the LIVE 'Steamroller' cut
on the Greatest Hits cd yet, boy are you missing a great take! I
have the studio version on 'Sweet Baby James' but the live version
is really unbeliveable!! This is my all time favorite live cut.

I agree Steamroller, live on the greatest hits CD, is great.

HOWEVER, I could have done without his language towards the
end when he says, quite clearly, "... MotherF____in' ...". I was
listening to this for the first time when my inlaws came over,
and wouldn't you know a lull came over the conversation at just
	the wrong time.

I agree. My son (age:4) loves James Taylor (He and I saw him at
Great Woods last year - Nathan was the only kid in the crowd!). He
loves this cut and has been known to sing the offending words at
    inappropriate times.

Let me also say that James Taylor has been doing this *exact* version
(complete with inapproriate-for-4-year-old lyrics) since 1970. Always
the same (at least in concert). Sure - the cut is good, but enough
is enough ! James: do something else - retire it !
