1415.1 | Multi disc carousel is what I'd go with! | EUCLID::OWEN | In a Locst wind coms a RATTLE AND HUM | Fri Dec 02 1988 09:05 | 12 |
| Have you looked at the sony Carousel 5-disc players? They aren't
any more than the single players.
IMO, the cartrige type changers don't even come close to the carousel
type players.
Believe me, if you have more than one CD, the feature of having
multi-discs at your disposal will not go to waste. It's nice being
able to listen to 5 discs straight through, in the order I want,
just the songs I want, or shuffled!

What do you mean by "IMO, the cartrige type changers don't even

Please explain!

I think he's referring to mechanical noise and reliability.
The carousels would be better in these departments. But with
the magazine system, you could have more than one magazine
loaded up and ready to go.
Have you decided on a home player only, eliminating portables
from consideration?

1415.4 | read all notes from DIR/TIT=SONY for more info | GLORY::HULL | Hallalujah!! The Resurrection (Plan A) has come! | Fri Dec 02 1988 10:24 | 15 |

I too would recommend a SONY carousel style player. I have the CDP C70
- its great. Just a minor nit on how it shuffles, but thats thoroughly
discussed in many other notes here. The C50 will go for about $299.
I think it would be a big hassle to keep all your discs in a
cartridge(s) and not be able to easily see them for programming tracks,
etc. The SONY can be programmed with the tray n the out (load)
position.
So far my player has performed flawlessly.

1415.5 | CDP-C70 is just fine by me! (mostly) | SNDCSL::SMITH | IEEE-696 | Fri Dec 02 1988 13:05 | 16 |
| With the exception of the software wierdnesses, my CDP-C70 has also
performed flawlessly, and I'd definately get a multidisc unit again.
It's really quite nice to be able to play lots of music without
constant fiddling. I didn't used to listen to albums for that very
reason, but now I think nothing of loading up 5 disks and hitting
"custom file play".
I dunno about the carousel vs. cartridge debate, as I've only played
with the carousel type players. It would be nice at times to have
more than 5 disks in the machine, but the best part about the carousel
is that disc-to-disc changing time is very fast. Maybe someday
when I'm rich and they fix the bugs I might look into the Sony 10-disc
cartridge, but the CDP-C70 is just fine for now.

1415.6 | I'm listening... | HILLST::AMELI | | Mon Dec 05 1988 07:38 | 11 |
| Well, over the weekend I picked up my C15ES CD player (10 disc).
From what you guys been saying, maybe I should return it. Although
the latest Sterio Review had a faverable review on C15ES. It's an
expensive unit as you all know. It's a very solidly build deck.
But for I payed for it, in this very competetive market I can get
so many other CD players. I listened to it last night, sounds great.
However can someone tell me why the caroesel players are more reliable
than the magazine styes? Many thanks for your other comments!

Ali Ameli

1415.7 | Keep it | QUARK::LIONEL | Ad Astra | Mon Dec 05 1988 19:56 | 8 |
| Re: .6
If you like the C15ES, keep it. The mechanics of the carousel models
are simpler and probably more reliable than the cartridge models, but
not so much so as to make the latter a poor choice. If it does what
you want, keep it. It should give you years of pleasure.

1415.8 | Sony CDP-C50 | GRECO::MANN | | Sun Dec 11 1988 08:16 | 7 |
| I have had my Sony CDP-C50 for about three months and love it. I
know about the shuffle play algorithm problem, but then again I
don't seem to use that feature anyway.
It's worked well so far, with no reason to expect otherwise.
