1413.0. "Shuffle on Custom File / Favourite Track Select?" by OLYMP::RUEFF (Ronny Rueff, Marketing, Switzerland) Wed Nov 30 1988 02:04

I am looking for a CD player with the following features:

	- Automatic Disk Changer

	- Favourite Track Selection / Custom File Memory

	- Shuffle / Random Play

	- Remote Control (if possible with variable Line Out)

	- Good sound mainly in the lower frequency range

	- Reasonable technology: min.16 Bit / 4-fould Over Sampling

The unit must be able to offer random play not only within a disk but within
the disk pack. Also it must be able to include only what is memory defined
in this random mode.

Is there such a unit?

Does the Sony 10-disk changer have this random disk AND song option (I know
it has custom file, which the 5-disk carousell changer has not).

I know that there is a Magnavox unit but they seem to be somewhat flatter in
bass range than the Sony's. And I need a good bass as my preamp has not sound
control at all and my speaker just produce the bass which is really arround
(compound type of enclosure with internal woofer). So at lower listening
levels my human ears already have to live with the small bass they can then
hear...

Tanks for any advice

Ronny

I believe that the Sony carousel model in the *ES* line has the
custom file memory, while the regular CDP model doesn't.

The Sony CDP-70 also has the custom file.

As .2 implies, the Sony CDP-C70 (5 disc carousel) has everything
requested in .0, possibly with one exception. It has true random
track selection when playing one disc, but is rumored to not really
remember what it has played on which disc when doing "random" on
multiple discs. I don't know if this is true. The difference between
the CDP-C70 and the CDP-C70 ES is that the ES has digital (Co-axial)
    output.

Lechmere's regular price on the CDP-C70 is $419, but it can be had
for less. I'd be interested in knowing who (in NH or northern MA)
has the lowest price on this, since I'm considering one.

1413.495% of what you wantGLORY::HULLHallalujah!! The Resurrection (Plan A) has come!Wed Nov 30 1988 07:3114
The SONY CDP C70 has almost all the features you want, except it can't
handle doing a shuffle play of *programmed* tracks. Also, as stated in
the AUDIO conference, SONY's idea of shuffle play doesn't match what
most of us would expect as a logical method (for multiple disc
    shuffling, that is).

I really doubt, at this time, if you're going to be able to find a
player with EVERY feature you want. Maybe a couple years down the
    road...

1413.5Try the PioneersSSDEVO::ALDENWed Nov 30 1988 08:109
Look/listen to the Pioneer PDM600 or PDM700. I think that they
both have all the features that you are looking for (with the possible
exception of random play of a custom track selection, I'm not sure).
Auto-disk changer, Favorite track selection (and/or track "deletion")
programmable for each 6-disc holder (up to 10?), Random Play mode (all
songs once), remote control (most or all features from remote),
good sound (you'll have to listen for your self though), and 8 (for
    the 600) or 16 (for the 700) bit over-sampling.

Check out note 1372 for Pioneer and Sony comparisons.

I have the Pioneer PD-M700. I too need good bass response due to
my particular hearing characteristics and speaker placement. I
am VERY satisfied with the bass response from the Pioneer, but each
of us hear differently - listening for yourself is the key. I believe
that the CD technology, in most medium to top units, is the same
    in frequency response.

As far as features, I think that the Pioneer has all the features
you are looking for. If you are unable to check out the "user"
manual at the stores - I will be glad to copy mine for you. Send
me a message - if you want to discuss anything.
