1380.0. "BEATLES BBC BROADCASTS ON CD" by SEDJAR::BOZEN () Tue Nov 08 1988 13:01

The multi volume BEATLES AT THE BEEB is now on on (bootleg) CD. I have
seen all volumes from 1-9 except for 4 and 7. Can anyone who has
heard any of these CD's in the series comment on the sound quality?

Specifically I need to know how these compare to the European bootleg
lp's sound quality wise and most importantly if these CD's were
just copied off the records or if original tapes were used. I say
European bootleg lp's because the US versions of these bootlegs are
inferior to the imports. The US bootlegs are all double lp's (ie.
Vols 1 and 2 together, Vols. 3/4 etc) while the European versions are
the originals and each volume is a seperate lp.

I have heard very few bootleg CD's which were not mastered from
records so I hope you understand my skepticism.

I've heard one of these, and was NOT impressed with the sound quality.
I had the impression that they had been recorded off-the-air.

Then again, I'm not a big bootleg fan, so I don't know what people
expect in this area. I know the "Ultra Rare Trax" (see note 1367)
discs sound significantly better then the official EMI/Capitol Beatles'
discs. These BBC ones sound significantly worse.

I should have pointed out that the sound quality does vary
significantly on the Beeb lp's.The early volumes especially 1 and
3 are very good but some are not that great. It should be pointed
out however that even with the substandard quality on some volumes,
the sound quality is still infinitely better when compared to most
other bootlegs and many of the tracks have never appeared on any
boots before. I guess my major concern is after having paid $20-$25
apiece for the European lp editions, I don't want to shell out any
more money for CD versions that may be mastered off the lp's I
    already own(!)

Speaking of the Ultra Rare trax CD's - I would very much appreciate
    a track listing. Thanks......
