Hi! I'm considering buying the ADCOM GCD-575 CD player. I listened to it at Natural Sound in Framingham and was thoroughly impressed. It sounded great, compared to a DENON CD player (I forget the model). The DENON featured 8x oversampling and 20bit DACs, while the 575 is 4x and 16 bits. But, it was audibly superior to the DENON one. My concern right now is the reliability of the 575. Anybody out there who can shed some light on this issue? Thanks, Prasad

You probably got no answers because your note belongs in the audio conference. There you will get more than enough answers to your questions about the hardware you are looking to buy. I promise! @@ > \_/ Ben

I would advise against buying at Natural Sound. I have had unpleasant experiences there as have other people I know.

The 575 is a brand new CD player - it's unlikely that anyone could have had one long enough to tell you much about reliability. And Adcom has not offered one previously, so extrapolation (except from Adcom's general good reputation) isn't possible. It was reviewed in the January issue of Stereo Review if you care to see what they had to say. They liked it a LOT. They said they would call it the best CD player they had ever reviewed, except that they thought it skipped too easily under physical shock. It's also interesting to note that they had reviewed the new Philips $4000 player only two months before the Adcom, so by implication they think the Adcom sounds better. So, unless you plan to throw baseballs at it, or live next to a train or airport, you might want to think about it seriously. I plan to check it out at Natural Sound in a few weeks (but would probably choose to buy it elsewhere based on price alone if I were to decide to get one). B |
