1377.0. "Jeff Healy Band" by COOKIE::CHAVEZ (Dale - CXN Colo Spgs) Mon Nov 07 1988 09:59

I picked up a CD this weekend by the Jeff Healy Band and does it
ever rock and roll!! The only reason I decided to give it a try
was because of the song "Confidence Man" (which is being played by
the local AOR station). The music is very blues flavored rock and
roll with some dynamite guitar licks.

He's from Toronto, 22 years old, is blind, and plays the guitar
with his left hand OVER the fingerboard. Good stuff...

    The band:

Jeff Healy - Lead vocals, guitar, harmonica
    Joe Rockman - Bass guitar
    Tom Stephens - Drums

    Additional musicians on this CD:

    Benmont Tench
    Robbie Blunt
    Bobbye Hall
    Marilyn Martin
    Timothy B. Schmit
Kipp Lennon, Mark Lennon, Michael Lennon and Pat Lennon

Lechemere's just got the CD in this week. Impressive is an
understatement of Jeff Healey's guitar work...

I caught Jeff Healy on the Carson show and was appalled -- "another
flashy blues guitar hero who hasn't learned what not to play", I
thought -- but several friends of mine heard him on the radio and were
ecstatic. I guess the way to handle this is to give a friend or
relative the CD, and then borrow it...

That's why he's in the rock bins and not the blues bins. 8^) 8^)

RE: .3 "So he's not a purist", "That's why he's in the rock bins",
    etc.

    Good point!

I could have said, it's not so much a matter of purism or lack thereof,
as just good vs. bad musicianship, but then I might have missed an
entertaining answer. Besides, I may well end up liking the guy...

Jeez, it took me over a decade to forgive Clapton and Winter for not
being black, ya can't expect me to instantly accept this guy...
