1373.0. "Does Anyone Know Shure CD???" by USHS11::SPARKS () Fri Nov 04 1988 21:50
While I had never really planned to get a CD, been lp for 20 years
and can't hear hiss on them anymore, I noticed to get classical
music the availability is all on CD now. Anyway an aquaintance
at work desperately needed some money and sold me a Shure SV-40
that he claimed is a year old for $75. I went back through several
Audio and Stereo review and couldn't find it listed anywhere. I
have been using Shure cartriges for years and am very pleased so
I felt good about the unit. It seems solid, doesn't have a lot
of functions, skip, scan, repeat and 15 track programming. Volume
on remote also. It sounds good to my old tired ears and amp.
I am using a pair of Dynaco 70's. Does anyone have any information
about the unit. The sticker claims 3 beam laser, 16 bit proc, and
dual breakpoint filter with a 5 year laser warrenty. I assumed
when I bought it it was built by someone else with shures name
on it, but now I'm not sure :*).
I would really appreciate some enlightenment on this subject.
PS, in all the debate about LP vs CD I haven't seen what I consider
to be the best part of the CD's and that is Storage. They are
much easier to get to and put back than the sleeve on an LP and
they store so much easier.
For this reason I will purchase CD's in the future, I don't have
room for anymore LP's with their storage restrictions.

| I seem to recall seeing a review of a Shure CD player somewhere -
maybe Digital Audio. My recollection was that it was ok, but
overpriced. At $75, you can't go wrong.
