1364.0. "program skipping" by SALEM::DAUTEUIL () Mon Oct 31 1988 06:30

    My roommate has a Sony CD player that,when in program mode,repeats
    the last split second of the current track before going on to the
    next track.Ex:program track 1,3.Before going to 3,the end of 1 will
    repeat,sounding like a skip on a vinyl album.He seems to think this
    is normal,but my JVC doesnt do this.Any ideas?Thanks in advance.
                                                                  Mike

1364.1similar problem on CDP-C50TALLIS::DOCKSERThu Nov 03 1988 10:5433
    Mike,

    My CDP-C50 (Sony) has a similar problem to your roommate's Sony (See
    notes 1322.3, .13 and .14). My machine doesn't repeat the last second
    of the present track though, it plays the first second of the next
    track on the disc. I have found my problem only occurs on certain discs
    and only on certain tracks on those discs. The problem is consistent;
    it always plays the begining of those tracks. At first I thought that
    it was a manufacturing flaw on my unit - but a quick trip to the store
    confirmed that this is a design flaw of the CDP-C50's. Other Sonys that
    I tried tracked the discs without such problems. Does your roommate
    have a CDP-C50 (or CDP-C70)? I suggest that you bring the skipping
    disks to a store that has your roommates model and see if the problem
    exists on one of their demos.

    I had orriginally returned my 'C50 because of the problems that I was
    having with it. I then purchased a Pioneer PDM-500, but to be honest
    with you, I think the Sony sounds better (at least in my system). So, I
    returned the Pioneer and picked up a Demo 'C50 with a four year 100%
    warranty for $250 at Lechmere. (Normally I wouldn't buy a demo but this
    one had only been on display a few days and they gave me the warranty.)
    The CDP-C50 is a good sounding relativly inexpensive machine that
    doesn't take too kindly to marginal disks.

    Back to your problem. Does this occur on every step of the program?
    Does it only occur in program mode? Has it always occured or is this
    something new? Your problem may be as simple as a dirty laser or as
    costly as a misaligned laser. Call Sony at their Westwood Mass office,
    usually they are quite nice and helpful.

    I hope I've been of some help.
