1350.0. "Disk/Player Problem??" by CIMNET::BUSCEMI (B the Ball) Tue Oct 18 1988 09:09

    		I just bought a new CD (Kool and the Gang/Greatest Hits).
    		Everytime the CD gets to the 8th track at exactly 2:26
    		it stops and plays that one note over and over. I can
    		manual fast forward the disk to the next note (2:27).

       		When this first happened I assumed a bad disk so I brought
    		it back and exchanged it. The 2nd disk did the same
    		exact thing in the same place. I brought the disk over
    		to a friends house and tried it and it worked fine.

    		This lead me to believe I had a player problem. The
    		thing is all my other disks work just fine and don't
    		stop at the same spot (about 39 minutes into the disk).

    		Any ideas what might be the problem? Disk or player?

    		Thanks!!!

    		Steve

1350.1I'd say a disc problem..MQFSV2::LEDOUXReserved for Future UseWed Oct 19 1988 14:2227
    I basically have had the same problem, altough the fault was not
    always at the same spot on a particular disc.
    To my knoledge your problem is a disc problem not a player's one.

    My player is a 2nd generation player and will not tolerate some
    defects that won't bother a 3rd generation player.

    The problem with your disc is that the master has a defect, so all
    disc pressed to that master have the defect. The only way to get
    rid of your problem is to get a copy from an other master. If you
    live on the east coast, get a CD from the west coast or from some
    other country, where different masters are used. The same thing
    occured with the first U2 joshua tree when they first came out in
    Canada, a defect at the beginning would show on SOME players but
    not all. The disc store should not give you any problem, or else
    write to the manufacturer, they should send you a copy from a dif-
    ferent master.

    	The standards on CDs are pretty tight and some manufacturers
    won't scrap a newly made batch just because a little dirt got on
    the master, as they know 95 to 99% will play fine. They also can't
    test everything they make.

    By the way what is the label? Just a curiosity..

    	Thanks for the info. I'll just bring back the CD and get something
    	else. I'll check tonite to see what label the CD was and get
    	back to you.  Thanks again!
