1338.0. "Untouchable Sound" by QUARK::LIONEL (Ad Astra) Sun Oct 02 1988 22:11

I found a (somewhat new, I think) CD store that I really took
a liking too. Unfortunately, it's away from my normal territory.

The name is "Untouchable Sound", and the shop I found is in the
Olde Shrewsbury Village mall in Shrewsbury, MA - they also have
a store in Milford, MA, according to their business card.

Untouchable Sound is CD-only. What I liked about it was that they
had the largest collection of New Age CDs I have ever seen - just
about the complete American Grammaphone collection, for instance
(unfortunately, Fresh Aire Christmas wasn't in yet.) They have
a moderate amount of rock and jazz - I didn't see much if any
    classical.

Also, this is a "try before you buy" store - the jewel cases on
display are empty - you get the disc when you buy it, and you
can listen to any disc you want.

Prices for the discs I bought are average - there were two AG
discs at $15.99 and an AG sampler at $11.99. They also have some
    CD3s, and I picked up Suzanne Vega's for $4.99.

They also have imports and will order and ship for you.

Olde Shrewsbury Village is near the intersection of routes 9 and 20.
The phone number of that store is 508-842-2244.

The other Untouchable Sound is in Milford on Route 16 in a small shopping
center almost under Route 495. The landmark store of this shopping center
is a Light and Leisure (The Purple Building).

Their rock selection is very good but their classical, jazz and folk sections
are not. Their prices are also a little high but they do have a small
sale/discount section and a rack of used CDs that I always check out. I
also like the sound room where you can listen to any CD before you buy it.

1338.2Big bucks for imports....EUCLID::OWENLost on the silent planetMon Oct 03 1988 10:1114
I ordered an import from the Shrewsbury store, and when I did I
asked how much it would be, they said a buck or two more than a
regular CD (it was the soundtract to when the wind blows)

When it came in, I went to pick it up. It cost $26 + tax!!!!!!!
Wow. I questioned the price, but she said that it was correct.
I'd been looking for so long for it, so I reluctantly forked over
my hard earned money and took the disc.

This is just a word of warning about their import policies. It
also took forever to get (2+ months) oh well......

According to a sign at the store, you can "listen before you
buy" an import, and I don't think you're under obligation to
pay for it if you don't want to.

    Re -.1
I knew what was on the disc, I have the album. I bought it because
I'd been looking for it for so long, not because I felt an obligation.

The point I was trying to make was this, the disc was about $8-$9
more than what I was told It would cost when I ordered it. They
should be more careful about quoting prices.
