| Check out today's Boston Globe. In the Rocknotes in the Living/Arts
section, it gives you the "Rattle and Hum" playlist in detail. It
doesn't say if it will be one or two CD's, but my guess is two since
there will be six live tracks out of the fifteen songs. The album will
ship Oct. 3, but the movie will be released Nov. 4. Can't wait!

1323.6 | I love it, but then again I've never been disapointed by U2! | EUCLID::OWEN | Hltr Skltr...we're stealin' it back! | Wed Oct 12 1988 10:20 | 11 |
| Yup, I got it yesterday when It came out. I think it's a great
album and the sound quality is excellent. (although it's AAD)
There are a couple of "OK" songs on it, but the rest, IMO, is,
depending on the song, great to excellent!
There are a couple of great cover songs (Helter Skelter, All along
the watchtower) and a couple of songs with the likes of Bob Dylan
and BB King.

| I got mine yesterday also. U2 is branching out with this album. You
have bits of r&r, blues, folk, and gospel. It's like a U2 kaleidoscope.
If you like U2, you'll get it. If you just started getting into U2, I
suggest getting the other cds first. You'll see evolution right before
your ears.

I see you played your copy a couple of times yesterday. Tell me
if you feel this effect from the album:
I feel that the band is extremely excited about the new music
that they are hearing (blues, gospel, folk ,etc.). The feeling
I get is that U2 would just like to shout out at the world and
say, "Hey everyone, look what we found. (refering to blues...)
Why don't you give it a try, we think it's great!!!"

1323.9 | Globe: yes, NYTimes: no | BOEHM::ZEE | Open...sarsparilla? | Thu Oct 13 1988 09:50 | 15 |
| Re: -1
I only played it twice;-)
I read the New York Times review which liked their live tracks, but
scathed most of the new tracks. Sorta branded them as egomaniacs. The
reviewer basically said Bono's rather breathy, uncontrolled voice didn't
lend itself to the blues (I'm paraphrasing here).
On the other hand, the Globe praised the album. I guess you'll have to
figure it out for yourself. It'll take me a month or so. By then, the
movie will be out.

Re: .8
I must be getting old but for those of us who already have *found*
the blues, folk, etc. it's kind of funny...
Don't get me wrong, I *like* U2 and think it's good that they may
help expose people to music that they have been unaware of. Seems
these things go in cycles. Other old-timers may recall Cream and
the Stones leading listeners to the *real* blues, the Byrds pointing
the way to folk music, Chicago and BS&T turning people on to jazz.

Is this a soundtrack for a movie? Is this a concert movie?

| It is primarily a concert film documenting their last tour to
support the album "The Joshua Tree". The album/soundtrack combines
live cuts from the film as well as new studio material.

the Live tracks but I am a bit undesided about the studio tracks,
will need to listen to them a few more times.

1323.14 | Monty Python's *The Final Ripoff* | HPSCAD::WALL | I don't believe it. | Fri Nov 11 1988 07:17 | 14 |

Has anyone else bought Monty Python's *The Final Ripoff* double
CD set and discovered that although the discs are labeled differently,
they contain the same material?
I've just come across a second set, exchanged for the first (which
I thought was defective) and once again, two discs with the same
stuff on it.
Am I just not getting the joke here? Is it Python's way of getting
back for having *Matching Tie and Handkerchief* be a three-sided
album.

OK. I was a mug, I rushed out and bought this. It is an unreservedly
opportunistic release. I was extremely disppointed. This was one of the
few times when I hae bought an album without listening, after Joshua
Tree, I thought I could rely oupon U2 for quality and originality.
Wrong.
For sale: 8.50 to any UK reader. Mail me.

1323.17 | "Angel of Harlem" CD3 Single | AQUA::ROST | Two slightly *distorted* guitars | Wed Feb 01 1989 11:26 | 8 |
|
The first CD3 from the album is out (The only "Desire" CD I've seen
is a 5" import). It has "Angel of Harlem", "A Room at the Heartbreak
Hotel" (also on the 45) and "Love Rescue Me", a new version from
October 88 with Keith Richards and Ziggy Marley (!!).
It comes in a plastic "Gem-Pak" which is much nicer than the common
carboard sleeves and miles beyond that stupid CBS pouch.
