1321.0. "Mission PCM7000 CD Player - Any info?" by HAVOC::ZABEK () Thu Sep 08 1988 12:02

    I'm considering purchasing a Mission PCM7000 CD player. It retails
    for $1000 and O'Coins in Worcester has it on sale for $499. A recent
    audio mag rates it rather highly and it sounds excellent. Does anyone
    have any experience with the product or any other info?

    Thanks,
    Steve

1321.1Mission = Magnavox OEM drive + Mission electronicsPUEBLO::GABBEMon Sep 12 1988 17:2419
When I investigated them about 2yrs ago, they were buying Magnavox OEM
units and replacing the d/a electronics with something that is supposed to
be better.

My opinion is the Magnavox drive unit is not very sturdy or advanced so why
pay for good eletronics with a mechcanial drive that will not hold up. I
did not do an A/B test of the Magnavox and Mission. If you would be
satisfied with a Magnavox, you can a get a factory reconditioned one for
$200 at Q Audio in Cambridge with full 1yr warantee. If you want a sturdy
player that will live longer than you will, get a MacIntosh (I didn't say
they were cheap). If you want a $500 player, Kyrocrea (sp?) has been very
reliable. The last 2 players mentioned are available at The Stereo Shop in
Newton (near Muzi Ford).

I always opt for reliablabilty because any audio gear I have owned that has
a motor and drive system in it, I have worn out in 2yrs.

Just my opinion,
Dave G.
