1306.0. "Sony D88 ?????" by ISTG::MAGID () Tue Aug 23 1988 14:11

    	Has anyone heard of a CD player by Sony called a D88 ?

    	If so what are the comparisons to the rest of the Sony
    	line.

    	Price, Features, portability ....

    	Comparison maybe to the D15 ?

    There's some discussion in note 1252.

    It's most notable feature is that it's about 3" square!

1306.2I decided on the D15 instead!BPOV02::MICHAUDThink about software that thinks!Wed Aug 24 1988 07:0615

    The Sony D88 is pretty small. It is about 3" square and plays both
    the 3" and 5" disks. I thought about this one for awhile but decided
    on the D15 instead. The reason being is that I like to walk with
    the unit and I didn't really like the idea that the 5" disk sticks
    out on two sides collecting dust from the atmosphere and the roads.
    The D15 plays both 3" and 5" also and the disk is completely enclosed.
    The size of the D88 was really tempting but I passed on it because
    of the above. You can get the D88 for $329. at Lechmere or you can
    save about $100. (that's right!!) and purchase it at Service
    Merchandise. If you do decide to go with Service Merchandise (who
    wouldn't) then buy it in N.H. and save the taxes. Have fun!

    John, what was the D15 price at Service Merchandise.
1306.5No D15 at Service Marchandise!BPOV02::MICHAUDThink about software that thinks!Wed Aug 24 1988 07:538

    	Neither of the Service Merchandise stores carried the D15. They
    	only had the DT4, D88 and Tech. XLP5 or something like that.
    	I ordered my D15 from WDS for $268. That is the cheapest price
    	that I've seen so far. Lechmere has the D15 on sale now for
    	$299.

Re .5

The best I have been able to find is

$279.00 at the Sony Dealership on Franklin Street in Framingham
        Garino's Audio/Video. 875-5969

They will order for you but you must pick it up.

Pray tell explain WDS - is this a mail order catalog, store, Cd Speak-easy?

    WDS is Wisconsin Discount Stereo, a mail-order firm that regularly
    advertises in the audio and video magazines. They have a good
    reputation, though I have never dealt with them.

    I bought a VCR from WDS two or three years ago with no problem. They
    were a pleasure to deal with.
