Believe it or not the best places NOT to get comparisons are "Good
Guys," "Circuit City" and/or "Federated" type electronic department
stores, since each carries "certain" lines exclusively. For listening
comparisons, try Macy's, Emporium-Capwell, the Broadway, etc. -
in other words, real "high-end" department stores who carry wider
ranges of brands.
For this same reason, I generally stay out of high-end audio specialty
stores, since they carry a brand that their manager-of-the-hour
"believes" in.

1302.2 | GET THE SONY! | GRANPA::CWOODLEY | Confusion has its' cost | Wed Aug 17 1988 11:09 | 5 |
| Check out the D-4 or even last years' D-3 which the D-4 replaces.
They are alot cheaper than the D-15 but will sound the same. All
that the D-15 gets you is, that it is half the thickness, has a
battery gauge, index search and its' RMS can do 22 instead of 16
selections.

1302.3 | D-15 skips less | STAR::BIGELOW | Bruce Bigelow, DECnet-VAX | Wed Aug 17 1988 12:10 | 6 |
| My experience (related in another note) is that the D-3 and D-4
skip much more easily than the D-15. That's the major reason that
I decided to pay the $$$ for the D-15.

RE .2 I agree with the sound and the features don't really show
a great improvement, BUT the big difference is that the D-15 has
a much better tracking system. It takes a bigger bump to make it
fall out of track. I have the D-4 ( I'm listening to it now with the
Beatles Rubber Soul cranked up) and I compared the two. Just with
listening to it you can't really percieve a sound difference. How-
ever if you want great sound, try matching it up with a pair of
the Sony "Turbo" in ear headphones, a big improvement over all the
other headphones that i have. If you look around you can find it
close to $200 for the D-4. It is a good deal.

And Lechmere has the D4 on sale this week for $199.99. I don't
know if they have any in stock though. I was in their Worcester
store looking for one and they were totally out. They may have
restocked by now though. I'll be looking again, real soon!

1302.7 | BJs has (had) it too. | WONDER::STRANGE | Is anybody alive in here? | Mon Jan 09 1989 08:40 | 6 |
| re:.6
Just FYI, BJs wholesale had (as of two months ago) the D4 for $185
(+5% if you're not a premiere/group member), in case Lechmere is
out of stock. That is their normal price, BTW.

Hold that Steve...., checked there too! Out of stock, not to
be restocked! I asked the manager behind the counter. They now
are waiting for the next model. I would assume that would be
the D15. No idea on when.
