I have a Sony CDP-310 that is nearing the end of its warranty and I am wondering if I should have the following behaviours looked into: 1) When disc is spinning there is a "chugga-chugga-chugga..." sound that is audible within several feet of the player. 2) About 60% of the time, the player takes what seems to be an excessive amount of time to start playing the 1st track. The amount of time ranges from 30 seconds upto more that a hour (which is when I gave up waiting). When the unit is experiencing a problem finding track 1, I generally get it to skip to track 2 and back to track 1 (before it actually gets to track 2). Both problems have been happening for at least nine months. Are these problems something that requires servicing, or are they likely caused by something like a dirty lens? Scott

Easy enough to clean the dirty lens and find out. The noise from the drive sounds serious, though, and I'd have it looked at. Steve (happy CDP-510 owner)

Thanks for the advice. Someone told me that the "finding track 1" problem sounded like an alignment problem. I took the player into a repair shop on Tuesday night. The only problem now is that I think that I am going into CD withdrawal! Scott

After some "adjustments", my CD player was ready to pick-up. The rotation-related noise problem is gone and finding track #1 doesn't seem to be happening (or isn't as bad). Scott |
