| My DT-3 has no such glitch.
Maybe you ought to visit your seller and check another unit. You
may have a bad output filter.

1283.2 | SET QUESTION/MODE=RETRY | TELCOM::ROSENBERG | Dick Rosenberg VRO5-2/C7 | Tue Jul 26 1988 08:10 | 9 |
| I misdescribed the noise. It is mechanical noise. You can hear either
the motor as it spins the disc around, or the spinning mechanism.
You can hear it until you get about 4-5 feet away when you are playing
a disc softly. The music itself is perfect. The question remains; Is
this kind of noise normal on a DT-3?
Thanks,
Dick

1283.3 | D15 does it too! | USWRSL::GREENHAJO | | Tue Jul 26 1988 10:13 | 5 |
| I can't speak for the DT-3, but I have the exact same noise with
my D15. I can't hear it with the headphones on, so I haven't bothered
getting it checked.

1283.4 | Any Quiet Ones? | TELCOM::ROSENBERG | Dick Rosenberg VRO5-2/C7 | Wed Jul 27 1988 08:06 | 10 |
| Ok, now let's try the question the other way (so I know whether
to return the thing or get a different one from Lechmere's before
my 30 days is up).
Does anybody have a Sony portable in the D3, DT-3, D4, D?, range
where you can't hear the mechanical noise of the disc spinner?
Thanks Again,
Dick

1283.5 | D-7 pretty quiet | HPSCAD::WALL | Desperado Under the Eaves | Wed Jul 27 1988 10:59 | 6 |

My D-7 is as quiet as a church. The only thing you hear is the
laser head moving during reset or shuffle. The spinner is only
audible when it's first spinning up, and then very little.

my D3 in normal surroundings.

1283.7 | Problems with a D10/D100 | YUPPY::OHAGAN | | Thu Jul 28 1988 06:51 | 11 |
| I have had a D100 (D10 in USA) for 2 months and I get a similar
kind of mechanical noise from the player when it is running to the
problem described originally in this note. Also when I put the case on
and carry it around as described in the manual, I get a knocking noise
coming from the player. However if I turn it 90 degrees either way, it
disappears. I don't think this should happen with it and I'm thinking
of taking it back to the shop.
Anyone come across my problem with a Sony portable?

1283.8 | DT3 is quiet enough for me (& cheap, too) | VEEJAY::ECTOR | Stax of Wax, Lbs. of platters | Thu Jul 28 1988 12:29 | 26 |

The noise described is exactly what I hear when I get close to my
DT-3. It does seem mechanical related, and is inaudible from 2-3
feet in a quiet room and not a problem at all with the headphones
on.
I'm quite pleased, since I went to "Circuit City" (a fairly new
- at least to California - electronics/appliance department store)
to purchase the Crown D-110 for $98.00. I walked in as they were
marking down discontinued/floor sample stuff. They had 2 DT3's,
so, I walked out with a unit, an A/C adaptor & shoulder strap
along with a 24 month full parts/labor warantee for $117.00. I didn't
get the rechargable battery pack, but for the price I can't complain.
Did I get a good deal ?? The guy told me that if it became
uprepairable during the 24 months, they'd probably upgrade, rather
than work on it - oh by the way, they have their own service center
at each store.
Except for TV's, I usually shy away from SONY, but I'm really pleased
with the unit (I'm listening now.....great stuff).

I think your question may have a better go-at-it in the AUDIO
notesfile. Give them a shot if you haven't already.
