1257.0. "Johnny Clegg & Savuka on CD" by MQFSV2::LEDOUX (Reserved for Future Use) Fri Jul 08 1988 12:40

For those interrested in good Music and Anti-Appartheid material,
Johnny Clegg & Savuka makes great Rock with strong South-African
influences.

The guy is from South Africa (White guy) and made friend with
local guys down there (Zulu tribe) when he was young. They started a
group that is getting very popular in France (Europe?)(as far as I know).
Any "old country'ers" would care to comment?

They made an excelent show in Montreal this week. Seeing the
guy moving on the stage is incredible... I beleive in France they
call him the White Zulu. Now I know why!. 55,000 spectators, I
had to be there 2 hours ahead to be at 40 feet from the stage.
Him and his partner (Dudu Zulu) dance together in ways only
African people can.

He wasn't very well known in Canada, but he's getting there.

I read that he tried to participate to a public show in S.Africa
but the Botha government wouldn't allow him to play. I guess normal
behaviour down there...

I only know of one CD (that I have) "Third World Child"
	 			     EMI record CDP7 46778 2

Anybody know of other ?

P.S. It's a DDD.

My teenage daughter turned me on to Johnny Clegg & Savuka here in
France. When I was in New England on home leave in early June, I was
diappointed that I couldn't find their CDs in the several stores I
visited (including Tower Records in Boston).

Upon return to France, I shelled out 115 FF (about $20) for "Third
    World Child". It's worth it!
