1246.0. "Sony D-160" by MEMORY::CHAVIS (They laughed when I sat at the keyboard) Fri Jul 01 1988 08:02

I recently purchased a SONY D-160 portable CD. I havnt seen anyone
discuss it here before. Its intended for use in the car or a home
since there are no battery packs available for it. It comes complete
with AC adaptor, a shock mounted spring base with built in power
supply, and a cassete adaptor for playing it in your car. You
can mount the shock mount base on the dash of your car with the
supplied velcro pads. On my dash I found it better than most
portable units as far as aborbing shocks from bumps but it still
skiped. I then found a interesting accessory available from SONY.
A goose neck flexable steel arm which mounts under a bolt holding
your car seat to the floor. The neck may be moved around for
your convience. Its most worthwhile attribute that it really
aborbs the bumps in 99.9% of all mobile situations. I dont know
if it will fit any other unit but I really like the setup. As far
as the D-160, I am very satisfied with it and have not used the
tape deck since I installed it.

May one enquire how much this paragon of virtue sets one back?

1246.2what? a bargain?XCUSME::MAKARAWICZCrosseyed and PainlessFri Jul 01 1988 22:0211
I bought mine on sale at Lechmere for $198.95 a few weeks ago.
    The regular price is $250.00.

I'm content with it, but I'm a little disapointed with the sound
quality and the frequent skipping---I'll have to check out that
swinging-arm-thingamajig. Where is the best place to buy one?

The mounting arm was about $30. I got mine from a friend in
NY who is a Sony Dealer (Although I dont get any deals!). I
will bring in the model number tommorrow.

It's probably the CPM-100 I referred to in another reply.
That set me back 99 Swiss Francs at Geneva Airport.
I use it with my Sony D-3, but it's also supposed to support
    all the other Sony portables.

    Rien.
