I have heard that the CD mechanism is patented, just like the Dolby System for cassette players. So, in my opinion, the sound quality should therefore be the same regardless of the make/model in question. Can anyone confirm this ? Mauro

No -- the *entire* mechanism is not patented, if by mechanism you mean 'CD player'. Even as far as patented parts go, the patents do not mean that all implementations must be identical, any more than all core memories (remember those?) were identical. |
