1192.0. "Great Old YES releases !" by CSC32::A_PARRACO () Mon May 16 1988 10:44

The two premier YES albums of the middle 70's are now out :

Relayer (with Patrick Moraz on keyboards)

Going for the One (with Wakeman back again)

Relayer has 3 songs (one epic, one technical show-off and one Jon
Anderson ballad), this was recorded at Eddie Offord's house in
the UK on a mobile unit, and really benefits from being on CD ...
The 2 killer tracks are Soundchaser, and The Gates of Delirium,
    sounds awesome cranked !

Going for the One was recorded in Switzerland, and features Rick
Wakeman playing/recorded on a huge church organ. Awaken is the long
track and is superb. This entire album has some great acoustic
passages that I really enjoyed re-discovering without the SNAP,
CRACKLE and POP of my old vinyl versions.

These 2 records make you ask the question, WHERE IS STEVE HOWE,
and why is he not playing for YES ? Trevor Rabin is an accomplished
musician, but Howe has that YES style and really works well with
a great keyboardist, ala Wakeman/Moraz (not Tony Kaye) ...

Going For The One is awesome! "Awakening" is incredible because
of all the textures, the richness of the church organ from its low
rumblings all the way on up is breathtaking.

I can't say that these two are the premier YES albums, Close To
The Edge is way up there on my list.
