1190.0. "JVC CHANGERS" by SKYR::NAYLOR (PETE NAYLOR, VRO3-3/B6, 273-3218) Thu May 12 1988 13:20

I am looking for a CD changer and had seen a JVC 6+1 changer for
$349.00. In looking through this file, I haven't seen anything
    on the JVC's.

Is anyone here familiar with them? Are they a good product, and
is this a good price for that changer? I don't know the specific
model number, but it is supposed to be their top model changer.

Any comments on this would be really helpful.

Re:0 - I believe the JVC model number is XC-M70. Also, any comments
    on the Pioneer changers?

There have been lots of comments on the Pioneer changers. In general,
people like them. Some people report problems with the JVC models.
You may want to consider the Sony models too - CDP-C50 and CDP-C70.

I just took the JVC XLM-70 changer I bought back to Tech Hi-Fi
and got a Pioneer PDM-60 instead. The JVC had an intermittent
problem of skipping/looping. It was probably dust, but I also
discovered that I didn't like the random mode.

The Pioneer has worked out great. If you program songs while
the player is playing, it will tell you the total time of your
program. It's great for making cassettes.

As far as random modes go, the JVC doesn't keep track of what
it has played, and repeated the same song twice in three tracks
on several occasions. The Pioneer can randomly play all the disks
(And won't repeat any of them,) or can randomly play selections
    from a program. Very Nice.

The 6+1 is nice, but is EXTREMELY noisy. The Pioneer has a single
disc tray that goes in the same slot as the magazine.

I'm glad I traded the JVC back in. And I also recommend the Pioneer.

Thanks for the info. I think I will investigate the Pioneer.

I saw the Lechmere flyer, and they were advertising the Pioneer M60
for $329.00. Does anyone have any experience with this changer,
and is it a good price? Lechmere says that it's normally $399.00

    re .3	My PD-M6 {older version of PD-M60} will repeat a track
from time to time when in random mode. One of the magazines/packs
I have made up is notorious for this trick, which leads me to believe
that the pseudo randomizing is some function of a hash code of what's
been played recently. It just seems that if it comes at a particular
track via a particular sequence it will repeat that track, of course
the preceeding sequence never occurs when I'm listening for it,
Bah ! Maybe this was "fixed" in the upgrade to PD-M60, maybe you
havn't happened across the magic sequence yet, who knows ?

1190.7It's not supposed to, but you never know...ATSE::DBMILLERCecil B D'Miller, the EsotericMon May 16 1988 15:4316
The manual says that it will not repeat tracks. For curiousity,
I went skipping through discs to see what it did. When it got
down to the last 10 or so tracks, it had to play 3 or 4 in a row
off of the same disc, but never repeated.

Which reminds me of one nit with the Pioneer. If you press SKIP
in random mode, it skips to the next track but doesn't count it
as being played. I prefer JVC's method of choosing another random
track. The Pioneer will only choose a new track (and count the
new one as played) when it is finished with a track.

My only other nit is that you can't edit a program sequence and
have it update the total time programmed. I have been extremely
    pleased with the deck.

    now.
