the price on the cdp-550 is $230. ($50 off reg. price). another
thing i found out was that it has the same specs as a cdp-350 except
that it has a remote. so cdp-350 experiences welcome!
the salesman is trying to sell me a additional 1-year warranty for
$19.99. (it has a 1-yr warranty on it). should i take it? is it
worth it?
thanks!!

Is the extra warranty worth the money???
I would say so, as the average repair bill is just over $100.00!!!
I got the extended 5 year warranty.

| I have the cdp 550 great machine. I would recomend it to anybody.
sony makes the best cd player on the market today, but I would get
a 5 year warrenty because a min. cost for repair is 100.00 to aline
the tracking system. Most common problem for cd's.

1187.5 | Upgrade one step higher to CDP750 | SCOMAN::AUGUSTINE | We Will Survive | Mon May 09 1988 07:30 | 10 |
| I recently purchased a CDP 750 to upgrade from a D55 portable. Cost
$299. + tax. I feel that there is quite a difference and that the
added cost of the sampling chips and the ease of programability
justify the additional cost. In the June Digital Audio and Compact
Disc Review one of the editors came up with an equation and the
750 came in second to a Magnavox unit. BTW sound playground has
them on sale this week if you are near one of those stores in NE.

| The difference between the 550 and the 750 is that the latter has
the track select keys on the front panel in addition to the remote.
You didn't say what the sale price was. I have the 510 (last year's
version of the 550) and like it a lot.

| Crutchfield offers the 550 for $229, and the 750 for $299. So these
prices are good, but probably can be beat if you shop carefully.
However, if you "miss" the sale, Crutchfield is certainly as good
as place as any to buy a player.

| I bought the CDP-350 at Lechmere for $180. Seems pretty good to me,
although it did skip once on a disc that had never skipped in a former
roommate's CD player. I took the disc out and wiped it off, and that
fixed it (this time, anyway).
One "feature" I don't like: On powerup, if there's a CD in, it starts
playing it. 99 times out of 100 it's the last CD I listened to before
I shut the damn thing off the last time, and I don't want to listen to
it again. It's minor, but a "human factor" mistake, I'd say.
Any other experience with the Sony CDP-350 out there? I didn't shop
much - I was looking for a solid low-end machine and I respect the
Sony name.

| I'll second the favorable comments on the CDP-750 - I like mine.
The 750 has the same power-on "feature" - I just leave mine on all
the time (I subscribe to the theory that its better to leave things
on - reduces power on/off stress and the analog circuitry is "always"
"steady state" - I don't read AUDIO but I'm sure there is a discussion
of this there).
However, during a recent thunderstorm, I was amused when the power
came on, followed immediately by music - it could have been annoying
in the middle of the night :-) This must be a trait of SONY's machines.

1187.11 | CDP-550 rejects discs! | BESS::NAGARAJAN | | Mon Jul 25 1988 08:22 | 7 |
| I love my CDP-550 (see note .0) .. until yesterday anyways! for
some reason, when i fed a disc yesterday it rejected the disc in
3 secs and it kept happening no matter what disc i used. so i returned
it to lechmere for fixing it (still under warranty). has someone
seen this (weird) behavior?

1187.13 | more on Sony 550 | JAILER::MOORADIAN | | Thu Jan 26 1989 10:53 | 18 |
| I just got a 550 at Lechmere for $200. So far, I am quite pleased
with its performance. One thing I did notice is that when loading
in a CD, the door "slams" shut. Is this typical with this model?
Does anyone know if there is an adjustment for this?
Also, after I first hooked up the player, I noticed that after loading
a CD, the unit would immediately begin playing without me engaging
the "Play" button. After fiddling with all the feature buttons,
I found that I was able to change this (I don't know how I did it--I
guess I'll have to read the manual now!!!). Now, after loading a
CD, the display flashes the total number of tracks and total playing
time of the disk, then returns to the "zero" track setting. The
disk does not begin playing until the PLAY button is pushed.
