1163.1 | No Ambrosia (Warner Brothers) | EXIT26::STRATTON | Just Say No(tes) | Thu Apr 21 1988 20:48 | 7 |
| My sister has called Warner Brothers (several times), asking
about the lack of Ambrosia CDs. She's always been told
that they have no plans to release any Ambrosia on CD.
In addition, they've stopped making the records as well.

Any of you that correspond in one way or another with WEA (Warner
Brothers, Elektra, Asylum or even Atlantic) with negative results,
get names of people you talk to and what office. Draft up a messages
and send them to me. I may not be able to do anything about it,
however I've a 1st cousin that's V.P. of marketing at WEA in
Hollywierd. If I get enough complaints, I'll just package them up
and mail them down to him.

How do you know the titles you mentioned won't be released

came from someone at Warner Brothers'.

| In my case, it was simply an assumption based on the fact that
the album (Steinman's only one) hasn't yet been released on CD, and
that the album wasn't a big seller to begin with. I'd love for
Epic to prove me wrong...

Yes, but I'll be more specific in another note, so this one
doesn't get sidetracked.
re:.previous
I suppose it's a specious to assume that because a label hasn't
released a given album on CD yet that it's unlikely to. I've
thought the same thing about KATRINA AND THE WAVES (their first
LP), which has yet to be released in the US on CD, but *is*
available in Europe and Japan. And, much to my regret, neither
of The Nails' albums have yet to be released on CD, but who
can tell?

BTW, it has as a bonus the 4 song "Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe Sing

| I'd suspect that we'll never see the "real", which is to say the
original London version of Jesus Christ Superstar. They've got an abridged
version (which is half length and out of order), they've got the broadway
version (I think), and they've got the movie version. That doesn't quite
measure up to the 28 (or is it more) versions of "the four seasons", but it
doesn't look good.

| Re/ .15:
As I mentioned elsewhere in this conference, the "real" original
version of "Jesus Christ Superstar" IS on CD. Good luck finding it,
though. I found it at BCD about a year ago. It's on two discs, and
has some weird tie-dyed design on the booklet which looks nothing the
the original cover art.
The only other two recordings I've seen are the London stage cast
version (NOT the same as the original, studio version), and the film
soundtrack. I've never seen a Broadway cast version.
Some albums I'm getting pessimistic about:
Soundtrack to "Pennies from Heaven"
Soundtrack to "Cabaret"
Phil Ochs' "Pleasures of the Harbor" and others
All the Smithsonian Collections of Jazz, American Popular Song, etc.
Chrysalis (the group, not the label)
Lincoln Center Revival Cast "Annie Get Your Gun"
... and for that matter, tons of other original cast recordings

| It seems likely, and sad, that the 60's stuff from Tom Rush, mostly
on Elektra, won't be released on CD. He bought up all of the rights
to the records and now has re-released but a few on vinyl. Given
the cost of cd production and the low volume sales (small ads in
magazines), I think it would be difficult for him to afford to produce
a cd release.

| re .5 The Cruiser
I wrote a letter to Warner Bros asking them if/when they were going
to release a bunch of albums onto CD. I got MY letter back from
them with someone hand writing in a note to the effect "no plans
as of yet ..." with no signature! It must've taken at least 2 seconds
of their time. This really pissed me off! Warner Bros seems to
be REAL SLOW for releasing older material onto CD as compared to
some other labels.

update from Noteworthy, and it says that Rockpile's 'Seconds of
Pleasure' album comes out on July 19, 1988!!!
Now I just hope they were nice enough to include the Everly Bros.
songs that came on the EP (which came free with the first pressing
of the album).
