1158.0. "Alternate CD Storage Ideas" by FGVAXZ::LAING (Jim*261-2194*DEC MemorabiliaCollector) Mon Apr 18 1988 15:07

I am working on a few alternate storage forms for CDs. In conducting
my patent search, I was amazed to discover that MANY alternate forms
of storing the disks (other than Jewel Cases, that is) have been
patented! Some are very clever, and seem like great ideas. Too
bad only two have made it to market (so far). It's a bit discouraging
for me, too, since it means it's not too likely my ideas will make
it (but I'll keep trying) ...

How many other forms of CD disk storage (NOT jewel-case storage)
    have you seen out there?

One such item I have seen is called "The CD Wallet" and there
are several different ones offered by several companies. The one
I liked the most held ten CDs without the jewel cases, and each
compartment had a soft valuor like cloth inside. It had a velco
fastening on the outside which appears to be made out of leather
or vynil. At about $25. it looks like the best.
Others that I have seen had clear (soft) plastic sleaves but
that did not sound too practical. What if it was accidently left
    in the sun??

I have a couple of the "thin" CD holders, which are similar to jewel
boxes but about half the thickness. The surface where the disc mounts
is hinged which makes it easier to remove the disc.

SHAPE also has a new jewel box that has some sort of mechanism that
lifts the CD out of the box when you open it.

I've seen carboard CD-wallets; where can these other storage forms
be purchased? I'd be interested in the smaller-but-like-a-jewel-case,
and the velour disk holder, in particular. Also curious about the
"sleeve" things ... where have you seen these?
