1156.1 | A Second Vote For Blue Note Cutouts | AQUA::ROST | That's right, Sam | Mon Apr 18 1988 09:17 | 20 |
|
I second the recommendation. A lot of the Blue Note stuff is really
classic jazz and has been unavailable for years. As usual, the
reissues haven't sold super well, so they're already getting cut
out.
The majority of them have extra (non-LP) tracks. I picked up the
Chick Corea "Song of Singing" with Dave Holland and Barry Altschul
and it has an extra 30 minutes. I've seen a Jimmy Smith called
"The Sermon" with 5 (!!!) extra cuts. Most clock in at over 60
minutes.
A real plus is that until the seventies, Blue Note didn't use
multitracking. Their records were all done live to two-track tape,
with the results that the CD remasters are realy clean, very low
hiss.
At least in MA, these cutouts are *real* easy to find. Strawberries
and Tower have bins full of 'em and even City Hall Music in Marlboro
has a bunch (though they want $8.99).

| I guess it was bound to happen! 'cut out' CDs... I love it!
Considering the alleged 'high cost' of CD manufacture, the
record companies must be boiling over 'cut outs'.

1156.3 | Look for Antilles/New Directions cut-outs | DSSDEV::HALLGRIMSSON | Eirkur, CDA Product Manager | Wed Apr 20 1988 14:35 | 6 |
| Another label with some really good stuff on cut-out currently is
Antilles/New Directions. In particular their DDD jazz and modern
classical discs are a great deal at cut-out prices.

Good Vibrations in the Greendale Mall (Worcester) had a
decent selection as of last week, all 7.99. I picked up one
by Eric Dolphy and another by Wayne Shorter. I was satisfied.

1156.5 | The Cutouts Will Be Vanishing | AQUA::ROST | Now Sally is a happy girl | Thu Aug 18 1988 13:15 | 10 |
|
The Blue Note cutouts will soon be vanishing. Blue Note has restored
the titles to the catalog and will be dropping list prices on all
reissue CDs and LPs. LPs will no longer be pressed on premium vinyl.
Roundup records who have been selling cutouts by mail for $8 are
going to raise prices to $10 after Sept. 30th. the pre cutout price
from them was $13.
