1143.0. "Where to find Imports-by-the-ton?" by CTHULU::YERAZUNIS (Hiding from the Turing Police) Wed Apr 06 1988 12:03

There are several import CDs that I've been looking for, however
I've yet to find a store in this area (495 x Mass Pike) that even
    admits that an import exists.

Can anyone recommend a store that has a good import selection, or
even better, know of a store willing to *order* an import?

[how does one "order" an import, anyway?]

The CD's I'm particularly interested in are (if anyone can help)

Walter Carlos' Music for A Clockwork Orange (British)
    	Project A-ko (artist unknown) (japanese)
Tonto's Expanding Headband (Cecil and Margoleff) (unknown)

    Thanks,
    	-Bill

Good question. I'd like to know too.

BCD (Harvard Square and Newbury St.) used to have lots of obscure and
interesting imports, but I haven't been impressed lately. I think
the increase of U.S.-released titles, and general devaluation of the
dollar overseas have dampened the market for imports here. Still, you
might check them out, particular for pop/rock material.

Also, you might be able to do mail order with International Book &
Record in New York, or with Seranade Records in Washington, D.C. Both
of these places carry a fair number of imports.

Riff-Raff in Worcester *says* they will seek out imports for you.
There's a note on them somewhere in this notesfile. I don't know
if their number is listed. They are on Park Ave.

Rockit Records in Nashua gets a reasonable stream of imports in,
    but I don't think they'll special-order any.

For imported rock CD's, the best I've seen recently is the Newbury
Comics store (in Harvard Square, but I'm pretty sure there's a branch
out west closer to you). For classical CD's Tower Records in Boston
has a wonderful selection of imports - almost all these obscure labels
I saw reviewed in Fanfare are now available to me, and some other
stores are adding them as well to keep up.
