Sure is good. Sentimental Hygeine is very enjoyable.
Just wish the man could last a little longer per album, thats all...

| Definitely a Warren Zevon fan ... I saw him in concert at George
Washington University in DC about the time he put out his live "Stand
In The Fire" album ...
His songs are just great .... My personal favorites ...
Excitable Boy "dug up her grave and built a cage with her bones"
Werewolves "gonna get a big dish of beef chow mein"
Gorilla, You're A Desperado "took the keys to my BMW"
and many, *MANY* more ...
A few years back, I made a cassette tape with all of the Zevon songs
that I liked on it. I divided it into Side A "Hard Rockers" and
Side B "Ballads and Love Songs". Still play it a lot.
I've resisted the tempatation so far to buy a CD of Warren's but
only because I have all the albums and I promised my wife I wouldn't
duplicate *TOO* much. "Dark Side Of The Moon" was no contest,
though.
I'll bet he sounds great. Good to see him recovered from his substance
abuse problems.

| My favorite Zevon songs:
Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner:
"you can still see his headless body, stalkin' through
the night"
Woodrow Wilson's Guns
Lawyers, Guns, and Money:
"I went home with the waitress, the way I always do.
How was I to know that she was with the Russians too?"
Roland and LG&M are on the "Quiet and normal life" CD. Woodrow
Wilson isn't (unfortunately).

I rememeber seeing Zevon at Folsum Field in Boulder Colorado
around 1979. He was the backup for the Grateful Dead. If Zevon hadn't
of played, this concert would have been a waste of time!!! He was
great and the Dead S_cked!
"... and he killed her and raped her, then he took her home..
excitable boy they all said!".....
" Pattty Hearst, heard the burst of Rolands' Thompson gun and BOUGHT
IT!...."
Zevon got a style that cracks me up whenever I listen to him! love
it!

Well I'm glad to see I'm not the only fan in this notesfile.
I guess it pretty clear that many of his songs contain some
element of dark humor. When I'm in a bad mood I find him to
be right on about such things as politics.

Great lyrics and great music!
I love the live LP 'Stand in the Fire' - some hot performances!

| I can't resist. I've got to talk more about Warren. Hope you don't
mind ...
Every so often you go through a 'phase' when, by God, you just have
to listen to something brand spankin' *NEW*. So what if you waste
a few bills or break a window or two or annoy one or all of your
friends ...
I went through one of those 'phases' when I was in school at the
University of Virginia in the late 1970's. Most of my fraternity
brothers sort of were divided among music tastes. You had your
Stones freaks, your Deadheads, your Fleetwood Mac'ers, your Who
guitar bashers and so on ... I was mostly into The Who and we
would stay up till all hours of the night screaming "Meet the new
boss, same as the old boss ..."
One day, I decided ... "Hell with it. I need something new. I
picked up a copy of Rolling Stone and there was a review of "Excitable
Boy" in it. So, off I went to the University record shop and later
that night, I heard some *strange* stuff.
o A-Woooooo. Werewolves of London ... A-Wooooo ... Draw blood.
o Blew Van Owen's body from here to Johannesberg ...
o Raped her and he killed, then he took her home ...
So, I thought ... "What is this stuff ???" I was ready to scrap
it but the tunes were so *catchy* that I couldn't put it away.
The next thing you know I've got half the fraternity humming away
and *everybody* starting to really like this guy. What a
transformation. We started to *INSIST* that the bands who played
at our house during party weekends know and play Zevon songs. Whole
crowds of people yelling "A-WOOOOOOOO ...." What a scene.
So, I've been hooked on Zevon ever since. I've got *ALL* his LP's
and each one is deliciously different. Seeing him live was a great
treat.
Super memories. I've always been proud of the fact that I turned
on a whole houseful of people to Warren Zevon ... Shows what can
happen when you take a chance ...
By the way, "Send Lawyers, Guns and Money" makes a *great* personal
name for your VAX Notes notebook ...

I once got my entire dorm hooked on the Tubular Bells album
by Mike Oldfield. For about a month you could hear it being
played by someone in the dorm.
re: .8
Desperados Under the Eaves is one of his better slow songs.
My roommate claims it's about cowardice, but I think it's
more about feelings of paranoia.
