1132.0. "Violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter" by NCPROG::PEREZ (The project penguin is dead!) Tue Mar 29 1988 22:12

It isn't specifically a CD, but I was at the symphony the other night and heard
a marvelous performer. Her name is Anne-Sophie Mutter and she is a very
talented violinist. She performed Mendellsohn's Violin Concerto in E minor Op.
64, with the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra and it was marvelous.

After about 10 seconds I stopped noticing a young woman and spent the rest of
the performance watching her fingers and being amazed at the music.

I heard her on the radio play the Autumn segment of Vivaldi's Four Seasons with
(I believe) the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and it was excellent. If I didn't
already have this by Ozawa and the BSO, I'd buy it.

I believe I also so a disc with her playing with Pinnock & The English Concert,
but I don't remember for sure.

Anyhow, if you get a chance give her a try. I think you'll be impressed.

My wife's mentioned Mutter to me several times now as being worth
looking into. I believe she'll be playing a concert date in Boston
    soon.

In the meantime, does anybody have any information on CD's of her
performances? Any Mozart would be particularly interesting. What
    is the Pinnock/English Concert disk?

    Thanks.

I believe she has performances on DGG CDs.

I have the Mozart concertos played by Anne-Sophie Mutter for DG.
In concertos Nos. 2 and 4 she is accompanied by the Philharmonia Orchestra,
directed by Riccardo Muti, and in Nos. 3 and 5 by the Berlin Philharmonic
under Herbert von Karajan. I would recommend both disks as the best
performance of these concertos I've heard.

I have another disk with the Mendelssohn and Bruch concertos. The
performers (besides Ms. Mutter) are the Berlin Philharmonic under
Herbert von Karajan. This too is on DG, and is highly recommended listening.

Enjoy,
Sudhir

I have her doing the Brahms violin concerto with Karajan and
the Berlin Phil. on DG. Its a very good disk. She also does the

Brahms double concerto with Karajan and Meneses. It's said to be
    good
    also.

Pinnock & the English Concert. I could be mistaken about the whole
thing...

Thanks for all the info. I'll probably look out for the Mozart 2&4
and the Brahms double. I've got Perlman doing the 3&5 and Heifetz
doing the Brahms violin, and it's hard for me to imagine those being
done significantly better in either case. She'll be in Boston in
    two weeks.
