1131.0. "Early Deep Purple is out" by STAR::BIGELOW (Bruce Bigelow, DECnet-VAX) Sun Mar 27 1988 18:25

I seem to remember that about a year ago several poeple said they
were looking for early Deep Purple on CD. Well, it's here and it's
"cheap" (at least in relative terms).

In Nashua NH, at the Pheasant Lane Mall, I saw two copies of Deep
Purple/Deep Purple in Tape World and also two in Record Town. They
were in the bins up front with the mid-price CDs in them, and the
    price was $11.99.

Tape World also had two copies of The Book of Taliesyn [now they
have one 8^) ], also up front and also $11.99.

Both showed a 1988 copyright and they are on the Passport label,
with a picture of the album cover on the CD (in purple, of course).

Good news for us Purple fans!

Now, has anyone heard a release date for 'Made in Japan'?
    That's the one I want!

I saw two "Purple" imports at Manchester Compact Disc in Manchester

N.H.. Both are greatest hits compilations and are about $18. I can't

recall the titles of the two but both contained excellent material.

$18 is kind of steep for a single disc but that's the premium you

pay for an import I guess. By the way neither was the common greatest

hits "Deepest Purple" that is relatively easy to find.

                                            Keep on "Spacetruckin'"

1131.3Deep Purple ROCKON::RADLERTue Apr 05 1988 10:4820

There are 3 greatest hits compilations available on CD. 1)Deepest
Purple 2)24 Carat Purple 3)The best of Deep Purple(?). They basically
have the same songs except 24 Carat which has 2 songs from Live
Made In Japan and also Black Night Live. I have Deepest Purple and
the sound quality is great. Also available are Machine Head, Burn
and In Rock domestically and imports of Fireball and Who Do We think
we are?. If anybody ever comes across Made In Japan or Stormbringer
    please let me know.

I have heard the 3 early Deep Purple discs. Deep Purple, A
Book of Taliesyn and Shades of Deep Purple. They were not Dig Mastered
from their master tapes. They sound like they were taken from albums.
The sound quality is not that great. A Book of Taliesyn is the worst
of the three with excess midrange. But they are inexpensive. Tower
and Newbury Comics have them for $10.99. Rockit Records in NH for
9.99. But I don't recommend Rockit because I have had bad experiences
    with the people their before.

1131.4"Greatest Purple?"HYDRA::PARSONS2A moose once bit my sister....Sat Apr 16 1988 10:1714

I'm looking for an album/cd/tape (preferably cd) called
"Greatest Purple". A friend of mine had it at one point and i taped
some of it (IT WAS TOO LONG FOR A 90 MIN CASSET!!).

It was a double album and had *ALL* of their greatest hits. The
problem is that my car stereo ate my tape and I no longer Know
where my friend is and i can't find it anywhere in any form.

If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated(sp)

    			thanx in advance

1131.6New one - _Nobody's Perfect_EXIT26::STRATTONJust Say No(tes)Sat Jul 09 1988 09:0327
I just bought _Nobody's Perfect_ - brand new live Deep
Purple album. It's a tad over 74 minutes and includes

        	Highway Star
        	Strange Kind Of Woman
        	Perfect Strangers
        	Hard Lovin' Woman
        	Knocking At Your Back Door
        	Child In Time
        	Lazy
        	Black Night
        	Woman From Tokyo
        	Smoke On The Water
        	Hush

All the songs were recorded in Spring and Summer 1987 (the
enclosed booklet lists dates and places), except "Hush",
which says "Live Jam recorded at Hook End Manor on 26 February
        1988".

I haven't had a chance to listen to all of it, and haven't
had it nearly loud enough either, but so far, I'm pleased.
It happened to be on sale at Lechmere - $10.99 for 74 minutes
of some of the greatest songs ever recorded is not bad!

A snippet from the _Rolling Stone_ - Warner Brothers is
going to "push the limit" on CD length to release, on one
CD, the two-record Deep Purple album _Made In Japan_ this
        month! I can't wait!

And what does "push the limit" entail? How long is the double
album. The record so far for CD length is Mission of Burma's
CD at 80 minutes and some-odd seconds. Is Warner's going to
push this limit, or just the mundane limit of 74-and-a-tad
minutes? There's already at least two CD's in addition to the
    MoB that have exceeded that.

I think, having read the Rolling Stone article, what was implied
was that they were going to push "their" previous limit, not the
    industry standard.

    re:.10

That figures. On the other hand, Warner's has already approached
the industry "standard". I'd have to check the exact time, but
I believe that Little Feat's WAITING FOR COLUMBUS is well over
    70 minutes.

Anyone actually seen _Made In Japan_ yet? It's approaching
        two months "late".

By the way, the two-disc album runs a tad over 76 minutes.

I have seen it in the bins now for about three weeks now at
Sound Warehouse here in the Springs. Can't comment about any-
where else, I think it was about 17.00.

I found a single copy of _Made In Japan_ at the (a?)
Strawberry's in Salem, NH - $14.99. It sounds terrific
        - much better than I'd hoped. Still haven't been able
to play it at 11, though.

re .14 - I tried to order it from Noteworthy's soon after
it was first listed as "released". They didn't have it.

1131.16BTW, it sounds *good*, especially loud!HAZEL::STARRYou ain't nothin' but fine, fine, fine!Wed Oct 26 1988 12:179
I checked Strawberries, Recordtown, Lechmere, and even Tower Records,
and none of them have 'Made in Japan'! I finally did find a copy at
Rockit Reocrds for $15.99, which I immediately bought. It was their
only copy.

Anyone now why there is such a shortage of this disk? Is it selling that
fast, or did the underestimate the demand, or what?
