1110.0. "Sale on Maggie 560" by TELCOM::ROSENBERG (Dick Rosenberg VRO5-2/C7) Thu Mar 03 1988 16:46

    I just got the latest Service Merchandise flyer in the mail. They
    are having a sale on the Magnavox CDB560. They say list $219.95,
    their regular selling price $179.95, sale price (thru Mar 13), $129.95.
    The unit has a remote, 20 track programming capability, track and
    index (FWIW) progamming capability, 3 speed search audible in 2
    speeds.

1110.1I bought one.BPOV09::LORDMon Mar 07 1988 11:1218
     Thanks for the tip, I bought one last weekend. To say the least, I
     am very satisfied. I've been a CD holdout for the last few years,
     but this price was to good for me to pass up.

     As readers of this and the Audio file know, the Magnavox units are
     sonically superior to most other CD players. The 560 is a 16 bit
     unit with quadruple oversampling. Signal to noise and frequency
     response also surpass most others. Being made of plastic doesn't
     bother me at all, as the unit sits in a cabinet with wood doors that
     are closed when not listening to it. Don't take this to mean it
     looks cheap, because it doesn't. I think it looks much better than
     the new 47X players.

     I certainly enjoy the conveniece of CD's plus this one has a remote
     so I can change tracks from my easy chair. You old time CD'ers
     already know this, of course. And sonically, that little $130.00 CD
     player outperforms my $500.00 turntable.

    Ditto. I just plunked down a little dough (it's nice
    to be able to emphasize LITTLE) on the Maggie 560 at SM, too, and
    I'm thrilled with it. It's impossible to beat a price like that.
    (Now if I could only do so well on a turntable ;^))

    Just a clarification... in his reply Mr. Lord says:

> As readers of this and the Audio file know, the Magnavox units are
> sonically superior to most other CD players. The 560 is a 16 bit

    I assume he meant superior to other CD players "in it's price class".
    I can tell you there are players that will kill Mags from here to
    next Tuesday... But most certainly they are a true audio bargin
    for the money and are highly recommended if you don't have a lot
    of bucks. I may buy one for my backup system in the den which now
    doesn't have a CD unit...

1110.4Don't Delay - Sale ends March 13thTELCOM::ROSENBERGDick Rosenberg VRO5-2/C7Fri Mar 11 1988 06:314
    While everyone's debating, don't lose track of the fact that the
    sale ends March 13th.

Well, I was late in getting over to Service Merchandise, and so all they could
offer me was a rain-check. Yesterday they called up and said that the
manufacturer was no longer making that model, but that I could have either the
Sharp 750-EFC at $139 or the Teac D400-ETT at $159.

Are either of these worth looking at?

Thanks,
Bob
