1081.0. "Mr. Springstein's latest" by DISSRV::MULLER () Tue Feb 09 1988 19:30

I grew up in New Jersey.
    I never liked Bruce
(they all called him Bruce in NY/NJ back then)
I didn't think that "Born to Run" should be the state song of NJ
(although WPLJ pushed hard for it to happen).

    (WPLJ doesn't exist anymore...)

I hear reviewers say that "Tunnel of Love" is a new style for Bruce...

I see a lot of "Tunnel of Love disks being traded in the CDSWAP
    notesfile.

Every cut I hear on the radio from this album pleases me. I haven't
    found any reviews.

    Should I buy it?

If the CD is really by a "Bruce Springstein", it's clearly a
cheap attempt to capitalize on the name of Bruce Springsteen.. :-)

1081.2Sure, buy it!BAVIKI::GOODMichael GoodWed Feb 10 1988 11:1322
    Re .1:

I think the title is refering to Joe Piscipo's Frank Sinatra satire,
where "Sinatra" does a Bruce Springstein tribute...

    Re .0:

Yes, if you've liked the songs you've heard on the radio, buy the CD!
I imagine you've heard the singles - "Brilliant Disguise", "Tunnel of
Love," and "One Step Up." The last one is the quietest song of the
three and fairly representative of a lot of the other songs on the
album. I think it's pretty safe to say that if you like those 3 songs
you'll like the album. And if you don't like the whole thing, well
with CD's it's easy to play just the songs you do like.

Personally, it's one of my favorite Springsteen albums. ("Born in the
    USA" is my least favorite.)

I think it's good to keep an open mind about artists, and not say "I
don't like X" just because you haven't liked what that person has done
in the past. Springsteen's music in "Tunnel of Love" and "Nebraska"
is quite a bit different than on his other albums.

Well I'm from Jersey myself, and I too have never been much
of a fan of the Boss. But his last two albums, Born in the USA and
Tunnel of Love are both excellent!!!!! My advise to you is, go out
    and Buy It!!

                                     Try it, You'll like it.........

Here is my review. I am not a "Boss" fan, and I only keep CDs
that have at least one good tune. 'Tunnel' is not the greatest use
of digital recording, matter of fact a analog recording would have
been just as good. The pop hits mentioned previously are good as
well as a tune called "Tougher Than The Rest". These four songs
are what make the album good, the rest could be viewed as less than
desirable. Overall opition of the album is "he did not try hard
enough". You expect a certain amount of "not so great" stuff, but
the other songs sound like they were made up on the spot by an
extreamly immature musician, not by someone who has been around
    for a decade.
    				'Nuff said

I have been castigated by some of my aging yuppie friends for saying
it, however, this guy has a terrible voice, along with Rod Stewart
and others. What he does do is write about themes that stir your
conscience or get your juices flowing with his backup group. But
    he sings just awful......
