I can only speak for one - Diamond Life by Sade.

    Sound quality = 9+
    Performance   = 8+

I wasn't a big fan of hers until I started listening to her backup
band. These are some very talented musicians. Her voice isn't that
striking, but it does complement the band very well, and it is unique
to a point - simply put, you can't mistake anyone else for her.
On both discs, there's at least one instrumental - which for an
artist of her obvious popularity, is almost unheard of. It's as
if she's admitting to the necessity of their talent to carry hers.
I include her as another artist, whose efforts I'm willing to buy
unheard. I've A-B'd the lp & disc of Promise, and am glad I own
    the disc. Recommended.

    re .0

I don't have Starless and Bible Black by King Crimson on CD, but
I have all their albums on LP and have In the Court of the Crimson
King and The Compact King Crimson on CD.

Court on CD has noticeable hiss, but since my records always get
scratched on the quiet passages, the CD is great! Compact has one
side of the "older" KC and one side of the "newer" KC. I am not
impressed with the material on the older side (mostly from In the
Court of the Crimson King and In the Wake of Poseidon). There is
hiss and the sound is muffled compared to the crispness of songs
from Discipline, Beat, and Three of a Perfect Pair.

Seeing as Starless has lots of quiet material, you'd want to make
    sure that there's not a lot of hiss.  I'm sure that's why you asked;
sorry I couldn't help you out on that specific CD.

Keith Jarrett, Standards Vol 1, (ECM)

    Sound : Dunno
    Performance : +12

The performance worth the sound. Keith Jarrett is one of the most
gifted pianist at the moment. This album is a bunch of pleasure.
    Buy it !

I have it on vinyl, so I can't really tell if the CD is good.
But I have Standards Live Vol 2 on CD. Sound is good, music excellent.

Advice of the day : K. Jarrett : Kln Concert
    Sound : Correct
    Performance : Superb

    Re: .3

I have quite a few by Jarrett on album. I don't want to duplicate
anything I have on LP if the sound is not going to be much better
on CD. If I hear as much hiss on a CD as I do the album, then it's
not worth it. It sounds to me like you're saying that Jarrett's
CD's aren't any better than the LPs (as far as sound quality).

I bought Peter Gabriel (second record) on CD and was displeased
since I found it no better than the LP. But, CD's like Susan Vega's
Solitude are great because there is no backround hiss ( and that's
an AAD just like Gabriel's CD). I guess I just have to ask for
    reviews before I buy.

Thanks much everyone. Any more reviews?

1069.5Still worth consideringCUPOLA::HAKKARAINENI hear some noting downstairsThu Jan 28 1988 10:546

While there is hiss on the cd, it still sounds very good. (Can't
compare to disk; I gave my turntable to my son.) And, of course,
    the convenience of cds ...

So, make the change, but don't hurry.

    RE: Starless and Bible Black

I have it on the EG label (only one available), and I am very pleased
with it. The hiss is not that noticeable when offset with the total
absence of rumble/vinyl noise ..... It was a MUST have for my
collection, more so than for the earlier recordings ..... Great
    Deceiver sounds fantastic !

There is a vinyl edition, half-speed mastered, Japanese vinyl, which
sounded great, and was available for around $ 10.00 US .............
I still prefer the CD version.

    Regards,
