1068.0. "Bruce Cockburn on CD" by BAVIKI::GOOD (Michael Good) Mon Jan 25 1988 11:39

Four of Bruce Cockburn's older albums have now been released on CD in
the US by East Side Digital. This means that there are now 7 CD's
    available in the US.

Here's a list of Bruce Cockburn's studio albums, what label they are
distributed on in the US, and whether or not there is a CD version yet.
All records are released in Canada on CBS; "Import" means that you have
to buy the album as an imported LP. Tower Records in Boston has a
complete or nearly-complete set of the import LPs. There might be
import CD's as well that I don't have listed here. I don't have
information about the live albums either.

      Bruce Cockburn 1969 Import
High Winds White Sky 1971 Import
      Sunwheel Dance 1971 Import
      Night Vision 1973 Import
Salt, Sun and Time 1974 Import
Joy Will Find a Way 1975 East Side Digital CD
In the Falling Dark 1976 East Side Digital CD
      Further Adventures Of 1978 Import
Dancing in the Dragon's Jaws 1979 Gold Castle
Humans 1980 East Side Digital CD
      Mummy Dust 1981 Import
Inner City Front 1981 East Side Digital CD
The Trouble With Normal 1983 Gold Castle
Stealing Fire 1984 Gold Castle CD
World of Wonders 1985 MCA CD
Waiting for a Miracle 1987 Gold Castle CD

Most of the Gold Castle recordings used to be distributed by A&M. Mummy
Dust and Waiting for a Miracle are compilation albums with some new
studio tracks included. Waiting for a Miracle is a double album on
one CD with 4 songs dropped: It's Going Down Slow, Call It Democracy,
People See Through You, and a live version of Rumours of Glory.

Out of these CD's I have Humans, Stealing Fire, World of Wonders, and
Waiting for a Miracle. The first three all come with full packaging,
including lyrics. They are three of my four favorite Cockburn albums
and are highly recommended (The Trouble With Normal is my other
favorite). Waiting for a Miracle is a good compilation, though it's
too bad they dropped all of the World of Wonders tracks from the CD
version. I'll soon be getting the other East Side Digital recordings
    as well.

Thanks, which one(s) has "If I Had a Rocket Launcher" on it? I have
been looking for a Bruce Cockburn or two to add to my collection.
I have "World of Wonders" on vinyl.

Yes, "Rocket Launcher" is on "Stealing Fire" - and that is the first CD
I would recommend getting, if you like World of Wonders. Then you
might get "Waiting for a Miracle" to see how you like some of his
    earlier material.

Bruce's style has evolved considerably over the years. He started out
as a folk-oriented performer (generally too mellow for my taste), then
started getting more rhythmic and putting much more emphasis on
Christian themes. That phase culminated in "Dancing in the Dragon's
Jaws." There are some transitional albums until "The Trouble With
Normal", where political themes start coming to the fore.

Over the weekend I picked up "Waiting for a Miracle". It has "If
I had a Rocket Launcher" on it. I like the disc, I will be happy
    for a while.

1068.6New album, Big Circumstance, plus two more great albumsKOBAL::GOODMichael GoodMon Feb 13 1989 10:5231
Bruce Cockburn has an outstanding new album out called "Big Circumstance",
available on the Gold Castle label. I reviewed this in Music notes.
For here, I'll just say that I think this may be Bruce Cockburn's best
album yet. It both consolidates and extends his earlier work, both
    lyrically and musically.

At the same time, Gold Castle has finally released "Dancing in the
Dragon's Jaws" and "The Trouble With Normal" on CD. So now, nearly
all of Bruce's studio recordings are available on CD, with the
exception of two early albums and a compilation with some new
material. Here's a revised version of my studio album discography.
All albums except those marked "Import" are available on CD in the
    U.S. on the label listed:

      Bruce Cockburn 1969 Import
High Winds White Sky 1971 East Side Digital
