1063.0. "Sony D160?????? portable!!" by BPOV09::JMICHAUD (Think about software that thinks!) Mon Jan 18 1988 13:47

    	Has anybody purchased the "NEW" Sony D160 portable cd player?
    	Has anyone seen this unit anywhere except in the 'Crutchfield'
    	mag? They claim for $229. (I think this is right) you can get
    	from them the unit, a dc power adapter for the car, a 'Recoton'
    	cd adaptor to play it through you cassette player, and the
    	rechargeable power supply. Sounds like a good deal to me. The
    	closest you can come to this price is for the D3T on sale at
    	Lechemere now. The cd adaptor for the car is not included, I'm
    	not so sure the dc adaptor for the car is either. Any first
    	hand comments on this one?

1063.1Not first hand but sort ofCREDIT::LAVASHSame as it ever was...Tue Jan 19 1988 07:3715
A woman I work with purchased the D160 at Lechemere in November. It seems
to be working quite well so far. The player it self is about 2.5 times
the size of the D-10. But because of it's size it has better dapenning (sp?)
capabilities. With the D160 you get the Cassette player adaptor and a mounting
braket/power supply that can be hooked up in the car.

Any other questions?

Oh yeah it has a back lighted display that can be read a night, it doesn't
have as much programming features as the D-10. I think you can only skip
over tracks.

1063.2For $189.95, I'm happyBINKLY::LEVITINSam Levitin -- MAD ScientistTue Jan 19 1988 14:2225
I purchased a Sony D-160 in Milwaukee, WI, on Jan. 2, 1988 for
$189.95. With tax it came to slightly under $200. With it, I got
the DC power adapter (fits into the wall socket), the cassette
adapter (to send the sound into your tape player), the car mounting
bracket with the cigarette lighter adapter, a line-out cord to
drive sound into your tuner (has 1 plug on the CD side, 2 on the
tuner side), spare fuse, velcro, and some other minor cosmetic
add-ons.

I did not purchase the Sony extended warranty plan. Buyer's Assurance
from American Express is sufficient for me. I did not purchase either
the optional remote control or something called the CPM-100A, Car Seat
Mounting Arm to use with CPM-100P (the car mounting bracket).

I also got the certificate for 3 free CDs from CBS, courtesy of Sony.
Problem is, I just left CBS due to limited selection.

I'm not crazy about the fact that there is only one form of display,
the track number. I'm a bit partial to the time-of-track and
time-remaining displays I have at home. There is an audible sound
made when the head starts up or moves forward/backward by track.
I'm not crazy about this, either. It does the job, though, and
for that I'm quite pleased.

1063.3Sony DT-3GRAMPS::FORTIERFun =flying in the air with hotair!Wed Jan 20 1988 07:0711

       I just bought the Sony DT-3 just before Xmas. I love the little
    beauty! It has an AM/FM "tuner" built into it, as well as the CD
    player of course. The display will show tracks remaining, time
    remaining, and all of the normal track playing info. So far no
    problems with the player. It came with a DC wall adapter, line cord,
    carrying strap, and the 3 free CD offer from Sony. I got it at Service
    Merchandise for $217.00+tax. I am very happy with it.

1063.4Highland Superstores sells them.TOOK::PEARSONLarry PearsonThu Jan 21 1988 14:542
    I purchased one last November at Highland Superstores in Brighton
    for 199.95. At the same time, Lechmere had it for 249.95.
1063.5Another D160 QuestionJOULE::WOLFMon Jan 25 1988 06:238
    One more D160 question. I get the impression from reading the adds
    that the D160 does NOT have a battery pack and can only be played
    from the car DC power or with the AC adapter. Can anybody confirm
    if the D160 has rechargable battery pack or not? I am looking for
    a portable but definately need battery capability.

    Thanks,
    Bob
