1054.0. "Dan Hicks out on CD" by DECWET::BERGSTROM () Thu Jan 14 1988 12:29

I knew it was a bad idea from the start. Badly in debt, with
creditors breathing down my neck, I realized that I could not even
consider stopping at Silver Platters to check what might have recently
been released on CD. But, then, I got to thinking that maybe, if
I was real careful, I could just blast by for a few minutes and
just look. Had to absolutely promise myself that I wouldn't buy
    anything, though.

I started down the isles, quickly searching the slots that I hoped
would someday be filled with shiny new CD's. Nope, no new Jefferson
Airplane. No new Hot Tuna. No Youngbloods. Still no old Steve Miller
records. No new Byrds. Pappa John Creach ? Not a chance.

Was beginning to feel confident at this point. "See," I told myself,
"you can just look and not buy. You do have the self-control to
    manage your money."

And then, I saw them. 2 brand spanking new CD's. Dan Hicks and
the Hot Licks ! Unbelievable. How could fate have arranged a more
cruel misalignment of events. I'm broke, and Dan Hicks is out on
CD. Not only out, but on that cheap MCA label. $10.85 at Silver
Platters, which means they would probably be about $9.00 at Independent
Records in Colorado Springs. Well, I did some figuring, and realized
if I slipped out the mortgage payment just two or three more days,
and put off the power bill, those two CD's could leave the store
with me, and so they did.

"Last Train to Hicksville" and "Striking It Rich" are the CD's.
Excellent albums, sounded good on CD. Even as I slid down the freeway
on bald tires this morning, with the broken windshield wiper
lazily floating across the windshield, I knew that I had made the
    right decision.
