1050.0. "High-End CD players" by FACT01::LAWRENCE (Jim/Hartford A.C.T.,DTN 383-4523) Wed Jan 13 1988 12:20

I am looking for a high-end CD player in the $1000+ bracket. I
was all set to get the Sony 705 and then I read the Jan. issue of
Stereophile. They found the California Audio Labs Aria to be much
better. However, they the CAL unit is built of tissue paper and
not likely to last. They gave the SONY pretty good marks for sound
and it's built like a tank.

I was wondering if anyone owns either unit and what you think.

    Regards, Jim

You could get Suntory draft from a vending machine for 300 yen, that's a
little more than $2.

The dollar traded at around 240 yen just 3 years ago; since then, prices of
EVERYTHING have doubled!

I'm thinking of getting a Denon-1520 (Christmas gift from me to
me!) The latest Stereo Review (yeah, I know - middle brow hi-fi,
but I love those Rodriguez cartoons) has a comparison among five
high end CD players, and the Denon came out as one of the best.
The technical specification are certainly impressive: 8x-oversampling,
    3 beam laser, etc.

Anyone have one of these or know more about them? I've searched
for info on this specific player here but haven't found any.

    Thanks,

I have a yamaha cdx910 and it seems to play well, I've heard
that the cdx1100 is well rated, and priced around a grand, but
that just under twice what i paid for 910.

    big bucks

    RE: -.1 (Dave)

The list price of the Denon-1520 is $750, which strikes me as very
reasonable for a high end player. That's one reason I'm considering
it. (Presumably I can get it for significantly less than that if
    a shop around.)

Well, I picked up a DCD-1520 over the weekend and I love it. The
contrast in sound between it and my older player (a Sony Discman)
    is astonishing.
