1032.0. "Good Deal ?!?!" by WIDGIT::WEST (On a clear disk you can seek forever) Tue Dec 29 1987 19:45

Heres an offer for those in the Colorado Springs area or possibly
any other area that has a LaserLand.

They are offering a *free* SHARP CD player, don't recall the model
number, in their new CD club. The way it works is you give them
a hundred dollar ($100) deposit and they give you the CD player.
Then all you have to do is purchase two (2) CD's per month for one
    (1) year at regular prices, $12.99 - $2?.??, and they will give
you back your deposit plus a free CD of your choice and you get
    to keep the CD player.

So, if you all know of anyone who would like to jump into this market
here is a fairly cost effective way to go. I almost did it, I can't
refuse anything that's free, but I couldn't think of why I would
    need two players ?!?!

They also offer $100 off on any of their Magnavox CD players with the same
arrangement. I took them up on that last week. The Sharp is listed at
$149.95 and they "eat" the $49.95 so you get the player free. But the maggie
sounded better. It was listed at $199.95, and that's what I paid for it.
They'll give me $100 cash (not merchandise, I checked) when I get 24 CD's
bought. They said the lower limit on me getting the refund was 6 months.

They also have an interesting deal on extended warranty: you pay $109 for 5
extra years. After that time they'll buy back any of the warranty you
haven't used.

I was willing to gamble on them being in business for 6 months, but not six
years.

Last week, all their CDs above $12.00 were $2.00 off. Not a huge selection,
but they're nicer people than the sleazoids at Sound Warehouse.

I took them up on it in Denver for a second player. They apply
to any players including the portables...

1032.5Other player 100$ credit expiredNEURON::MARTINWed Jan 06 1988 10:5411
Supposedly the deal on 'other players' besides SHARP has expired,
(100$ credit) but I talked the salesman into talking to the owner
to see if some lesser credit could be applied to other players.
It will be interesting to see how it goes.

As far as selection, they at least have the 'good' disks that other
folks seem to always be out of, may have to take the deal whatever
it is... (their prices are competitive, and I probably will buy
    disks anyway...)
