My DSoTM is marked with the Harvest logo. It cost 9.99.
What difference is represented by the logo?

The US issue is on Capitol. Supposedly the UK Harvest issue has
better sound. Why they have separate masters for CDs in different
countries I'll never understand.....
Now if they would only issue the old German SQ mix on CD...8^)

| Just to add to the confusion (?), there appear to be at least 2
pressings of the Harvest CD. I picked mine up quite a while ago,
and it is black on top with silver lettering. I recently saw a
newer version, and it is a silver platter with black lettering.
Maybe the older, black one is worth $150 (hope, hope)?

| Have other Pink Floyd CDs from Harvest increased in value as well. I
have "The Wall" from Harvest, and there is a big difference between it
and the US (Columbia?) version that a friend of mine has.
BTW: In an earlier note, there was a controversy over whether EMI and
Harvest were the same. My DSotM has both Harvest and EMI printed on the
label.

Mine has Harvest and EMI printed on mine also, but it looks like
the EMI stuff is just copyright stuff. Is yours silver with black
writing?
Give it up Benn, the silver CD's with black writing are ECO CD's.
Clearly sound better and are worth more :-)

1029.6 | Japanese Import "DARK SIDE OF THE MOON" | OTFSV2::DONELY | | Tue Dec 29 1987 22:12 | 8 |

While I was out shopping for a CD player just over a year ago
a Salesman told me of his months of hunting for the ultimate
"Dark Side of The Moon" CD..
Apparently there is a Japanese Import which is supposed to
be Far superior to that of the U.S. or U.K. Import versions..
Costly though; It was about 50% more than the usual Domestic cost...

Blackhearts. Not EVEN trying to do PF. ;-*).....I moved up a couple

| I had a similar experience last year (in fact there is probably a note
in here on it). I bought Tears for Fears "Songs from the Big Chair"
and got Bryan Adams. Probably just a production glitch caused a disk
to be mislabled. I exchanged the disk for the one I wanted with
absolutely no problems.

| There have been a number of incidents of discs being incorrectly
labelled and packaged. The first I heard about was when a number
of people played what they thought was going to be Lawrence Welk,
and got the Sex Pistols instead.

I'd save the disk. Could be a collectors item one day. One can
never tell what people are willing to pay for a few years down the
line.

No difference at all to my philistine ears... (My Harvest has black
writing on a silver platter)... still better than my somewhat beaten
up 4th vinyl copy of DSoTM.

| This note got me curious so I checked out my copy of DSoTM. It
is a Harvest with silver lettering and a black backround and it
was printed in Japan. Now is this 'one of the good ones'?

That's the one I have as well. Black with silver writing. My "The Wall"
is also from Japan and black with silver writing.

| I would love to have Sex Pistols with Laurence Welk label :-)
On Dark Side of Moon versions, I am confused. What are the difference
in digital masters. I suppose the dynamic range could be lost due
to A/D conversion or some odd digital weighting could have been
used or range or whatever. Does anybody have an answer or a pointer.
Thanks,
Les

| The Harvest issues used to be fairly plentiful in the US before
Capitol and CBS squared up the CD rights in the US. One can still
find them by looking hard (I found the Harvest issue of MEDDLE
just a few months ago, for example). They normally aren't any more
expensive than the average UK import.
re:.6
I bought the Japanese (EMI label) DSotM back when I first started
buying CD's. At the time, I only paid $22 (this was when the average
price for new domestic CD's was $17-19). I've not done any A/B
comparisons myself, but everything I've read about the different
issues is that the Japanese is superior to any other. I could
believe that *this* is the one that's going for $150.
I've also heard of an MFSL issue that is supposed to be excellent.
