If you're near Boston, Denon CD players are stocked by Tweeter and
Waltham Camera and Stereo, both of which service equipment that they
sell. At least this was true a year ago when I bought my 1500 from
Waltham, and I doubt either of them has dropped Denon. Both stores
will sell you the players for below list price, at least with haggling,
but I don't know how big a discount you'll be able to get. There might
well be other Boston-area stores that have these players as well.
1024.2N.S. carries DenonDISSRV::PATTERSONLet Those Who Ride DecideWed Dec 23 1987 14:3615
Natural Sound in Framingham carries lots of Denon equipment. I
just purchased a Denon receiver and a Denon cassette deck from
them. Most of their Denon stuff was on sale, marked down a good
bit from list. I wasn't looking for a CD player, so I can't tell
you if they carry the 1500 II. A call to them would get you an
answer. Also, additional savings can be haggled when paying cash
or check. I've read here that some audio buffs are not too fond
of Natural Sound. I have bought LOTS of audio gear from them.
I have always been treated like a king, given excellent service,
and ALWAYS negotiated rock bottom prices. My salesman is David
    Kent. Give him a try.

    Happy Holidays!

Look in the Mail Order ads in the back of recent audio publications
(Audio, Stereo Review, etc.) I've seen what appeared to be excellent
prices on this unit. I seem to remember seeing one ad listing it
    for under $400.

Leiser Sound (Rt. 9 in Shrewsbury near Spags and other locations)
carries Denon. I would tend not to count on them for service, but
I suspect their prices might be lower than some of the places mentioned
    in the other replies.

    Re .4
Not in my experience. A Dennon product I priced out was much cheaper
at Natural Sound's regular price than Leiser's "sale" price. Leiser
knew it too. Their P+10 price guarantee is in my opinion just
marketing hype - charge what they want and hope you don't check.

I was basing my comments on the time when I was looking for a receiver.
They had the (at the time) Denon bottom-of-the-line receiver (I
forget the model, ~35 wpc) for $199, while Tweeter wanted ~$239
(on "sale", I believe) for the same receiver. The NY mail order
places were asking $189-199. Maybe they've changed. It's still worth
    checking out.

Check the back of Digital Audio. There's a place called "Taskamichi
Audio" that offers it for 539. That beats the best store sale price
by over 100 beans. I'm about to buy one myself. By the way, I
meant the classified section of DA mag. Hope I'm not too late.
