1020.2 | Sony DCC-120A | WCSM::PURMAL | Oh, the thinks you can think! | Mon Dec 21 1987 10:19 | 5 |
| I use the Sony DCC-120A in my car. It's fused, and has 4 voltages
6, 9, 10.5, and 12 volts. I got it as a gift, so I don't know where
to get one, or how much they cost.

| You can get 12v to other DC voltage converters with lighter plugs
at most Raido Shack and similar stores. Just check the current
draw on your machine. CD players take a bit more power than cassette
players, so you may need the 500 milliamp instead of the 125 milliamp
converters.

| Give You-Do-It Electronics in Needham a call at 449-1005
and see if they have one in stock (they carry a good amount of
this kind of stuff).

1020.5 | is not enough good enough? | SCOMAN::AUGUSTINE | | Wed Dec 23 1987 06:36 | 17 |
| Well folks I was at the new Greendale Mall last night and went into
Lechmere and lo and behold they had a Recotron adapter specifically
for portable cd players so I put down the cash even though there
was no current rating on the packaging only a sticker saying that
the output is 8VDC. I get home and measure the output of the AC
adapter furnished by Sony this is 12VDC, The battery pack with a
new set of batteries is also 12VDC. The measured amount of the
adapter is 7VDC off of the car battery.
So after all of that I test tried if for a minute with the battery
pack removed and it works. Now my questions are will the lack of
proper DC input, Via the extrernal power plug cause harm to the
unit or is there a cutoff diode in the input to limit the voltage
to 5vdc?
thanks again

| Not real sure about the possible power probs... I bought the
high-powered model from Radio Shack for (I think) $12.95. Works
well. My player is only 6V though.

1020.7 | Sanyo portable | GORT::JOYCE | | Wed Dec 30 1987 11:56 | 7 |
| Has anyone had luck powering a Sanyo portable CD player? It comes
with a regular 120 volt AC power cord for in home use. To run it
in the car it looks like it needs +8 and -8 volts DC. This seems
strange, but thats the voltage reading at the 3 pin DC power input,
when the unit is running off of the AC power cord.
