1) The best place to go is the downtown Tower Records (Broadway and
14(?)). They seem to have every CD in existance.

2) The other Tower (Broadway and 66th? by Lincoln Center) is also very
good.

3) J&R's music world also has a good selection and their regular prices
are a little better than Tower's. J&R is located on Park Row, across
from City Hall.

The above are listed because of selection. The cheepest depends on when
and on what the sales are. That varies from week to week.
I was at Tower this past week and several brands, such as Telarc, were
on sale for $12.99.

Tower Records downtown is Broadway at E 4th. Selection is excellent,
price is adequate ($14.00 -$16.00 and up common).

For bargain basement prices, go into small shops in the village.
Can't give you good directions on specific places. If you start
at Tower Records downtown, head east on E 4th and when you get
to W 4th or so (Waverly Square) start wandering. Lot's of very
    very very small places.

I've seen things like Beatles' CDs selling for $9.00. Selection
in these small shops can be limitted, and they often have "loss
leaders" to get you into the store with the rest of the discs
    selling at $14.00 and up.

Better head west, or you'll end up in the East River, not in the Village.

Me and Topaz keep getting that stuff mixed up. Well, Manhattan's
not too wide down there anyhow.

Most of the CDs I saw when in Ny were ~$18 plus NY tax - not cheap.
That was in a normal department store and a place called Crazy Eddies.
