1004.0. "Joe Cocker - Unchain My Heart" by COOKIE::CHAVEZ (Dale C. - CXO3 Colo Spgs) Mon Dec 07 1987 11:10

Picked up the new Joe Cocker CD this weekend, "Unchain My Heart", and
I was pleasantly surprised. This is more main-stream than I thought
it would be, but still has some nice cuts on it.

The selections:

	 - Unchain My Heart (current single)
	 - Two Wrongs
	 - I Stand in Wonder
	 - Rivers Rising
	 - Isolation
	 - All About Tomorrow
	 - A Woman Lves a Man
	 - Trust In Me
	 - The One
	 - Satisfied

Haven't heard that one yet, but I just got my copy of the "Best
of Joe Cocker," volume 4 of the A&M 25th anniversary set. It tops
out at around 65 minutes and really is the best from '68 through
'75. It opens with "Feelin' Allright (not feelin' too good myself),
a Dave Mason song which vyed for the charts the same time as Grand
Funk Railroad's version. Joe changes the whole feeling of the song
and his despair is the songs' virtue. Also included are "She Came
In Through The Bathroom Window," "You Are So Beautiful," "Cry Me
A River" (a gutsy rendition of Julie London's 1953 hit), and the
Mad Dogs & Englishmen hit "With a Little Help From My Friends."

    Sound quality deserves a 9, performance 9, with a special 10 for
stereo channel seperation. I'm a long time fan of this "quirky"
rocker with a gravel-pit voice - and this is a long awaited addition
for my collection. Recommended for Cocker fans.

I agree with .1, with an addition. It also includes the live version
of "The Letter", which I thought to be the highlight of the disc.

Has anyone seen "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" on CD yet? If so, where and
how much?

This has been out for quite some time (at least 2 years). If you
can find an address in ELF for Andy Doolittle (he prowls these notes
on occasion) ask him, 'cuz I borrowed his for a couple weeks. The
sound is good to very good. I haven't seen it myself in stores,
but know it does exist. Can't remember if it was a double CD or
not, but something tells me it was. That'd put it in the price range
    of over $20.

"Mad Dogs" is available both from A&M and from Mobile Fidelity....

why that is, I sure don't know. One review preferred the MF, but
I'm sure it's more expensive by a few bucks.

1004.6$12 at Strawberries (A&M Classics V4)TOOK::MICHAUDJeff MichaudFri Feb 05 1988 21:069
Well I just bought the A&M Classics volume 4 at Strawberries
for $12. The disc is 51:18 minutes (not 65 as .1 said, unless
he got bonus tracks which I didn't). I would only give it
an 8 for sound quality as I heard some background hiss on a
couple of tracks as the disk is AAD (and the cuts come from as
far back as '68). It is good though!

My favorite is a tossup between "Feeling Alright" and "With
a little help from my friends".
