Does anyone have any info on the Crown portable that is on sale at Fretters and Highland "superstores"? The ads I've seen offer it for as low as $88, which makes it a reasonable buy for a Christmas present. - JP

got one right here in the bottom drawer; worth the money. probably
not the absolute best, but sounded identical to the Citizen and
Fisher that the salesman was pushing for more $. a little bigger
but it's not getting carried around, and they all paused with any
sort of shock.
comes with AC adapter, but not headphones, so you can use decent
ones rather than the crap thrown in.
the AM/FM model is not worth one cent more, it got about three stations
in Salem, NH.

| 989.2 | $78 out here | CRVAX1::KAPLOW | sixteen bit paleontologist | Thu Dec 31 1987 10:43 | 2 |
Out here in Chicago, they are going for $78. They sound like it
too! I suppose they can't be any less reliable than my D-5, thou.

O.K., It's been a few months more. Is the Crown still worth it? They have the D-50 here at Targets for $119. It seems pretty straight forward, not a lot of features, but you can use regular (or nicad) AA batteries. If you use the nicad ones it will recharge them internally. Which do you think is the better buy: The Crown d-50 for $119 or the Sony D3 for $159. Enquiring (first time) minds want to know. Ron | |||||
