This is a curiosity question: I remember hearing about the capability of CDs to store megabytes of data and wonder how much music can be packed onto one of these disks? I've seen some remasterings of 'original two-record sets' on double-CD packs and have wondered why they don't just throw both LPs onto one CD. It would please me (and I'd be willing to pay commensurately) to have, say, several Beatles albums on one CD. Is this doable? Has anyone ever done it? Are there any CDs out there that contain appreciably more than 70 minutes of music? Pete

The longest possible CD is 74 minutes and 20 seconds (not sure about the seconds..) There's a note in here that lists very long CDs somewhere... Steve

but I have a related question.... When is the audio industry going to do what the computer industry always does and obsolete all the players in the country by doubling or quadrupling the disc capacity? - tom]

I just bought the new Paul McCartney CD "All The Best" and it is only one CD (but a double album) and is 72min and 42(?)sec long. It's a great CD, and for only $14 you can't beat it!!!!!!! |
