| How would you compare this new CD to "Brother Where You Bound" or
"Breakfast in America"?
B.T.Y. have you ever heard the "Paris/Live" CD? What did you think?

I like all three! Free as a Bird is similar to BWYB in the respect that
they incorporate other musicians. When Roger Hodgson was with Supertramp,
they didn't explore with other musicians. Free as a Bird has a lot of
energy. I feel, if you like Supertramp, you'll love this one!
> B.T.Y. have you ever heard the "Paris/Live" CD? What did you think?
I have Paris in my CD collection. This one is a hard one to call. There
are some cuts on it that sound great Live. Also, it has a song I think
is called "You started laughing" that I like that is not on any other album.
The bad thing about this CD is that it's a 2 CD package, and you know the
price of 2 CDs is double that of 1.

Roger Hodgson - Hai Hai - A+M
Supertramp - Free as a Bird - A+M
"on the evidence of these two albums, Roger Hodgson's former mates
in Supertramp better beg him to come back. FREE AS A BIRD is a lifeless
album featuring syrupy ballads and lackluster vocals by Rick Davies.
There isn't a strong cut to be found. You'd never know this was
the same group that gave us the brilliant BREAKFAST IN AMERICA.
That's because the man behind BREAKFAST is Hodgson who apparantly
took Supertramp's heart and musical soul with him when he left.
Propelled by his distinctive high vocals, his own album, HAI HAI,
is full of songs that snap and pop. Supertramp lives on with Hodgson.
Grade: A minus for Hodgson C plus for Supertramp"
-Steve White
Snap and pop?? Did this guy put the album in his toaster or what?
I haven't heard either yet but I have a feeling he doesn't like
Supertramp without Roger. I guess everyone has different tastes.

| For me, Hodgson was the voice of Supertramp. Given the choice, I
buy his recordings, not theirs.

| I think both schools have their merit. Davis is much more Orchestrally
skilled. His compositions are more than just Piano licks with
background sound. And Hodgson has the Lyrics that Davis lacks.
Both put out some nice sounds, but unfortuneately, together they
put out GREAT Sounds. There's nice listening, but nothing has
been as good as "Crisis..."

| Well, it's been 3 weeks since the last reply and I'm curious to
hear more of what people think of the new Supertramp cd. Being
a Supertramp fan from the beginning, I'm still a little hesitant
to run out and buy this one. C'mon, let's hear it!

| In a related vein, I noticed an advertisement for Mobile Fidelity's
Original Master recording of "Crime of the Century" on CD in the latest
Digital Audio. Has anyone had the opportunity to compare the Original
Master CD to the standard release? Is it worth searching for the
Original Master version?

| I was an avid Supertramp fan until BREAKFAST IN AMERICA and on.
I thought that they had lost there musical presence after that album.
As far as I'm concerned the best Supertramp discs were: CRIME
OF THE CENTURY, CRISIS! WHAT CRISIS? and EVEN IN THE QUIETEST MOMENTS.
